Bleeding after internal scan

Hello all,

Looking for some advice/reassurance. Had an early scan yesterday at 7 weeks which was internal and all was ok with baby and heartbeat. Have had brown spotting ever since which as time passes is getting more frequent rather than lighter. Anyone else had this? Previous recurring miscarriages so I'm not feeling great about this but surely it must be the scan given everything was fine then 2 hours later the spotting started?

I would contact EPU. Hope all is OK and they’ve just irritated your cervix but it’s always best to get checked.

It's common for an internal scan to cause spotting. Brown is less concerning than red. No harm in contacting your unit again for advice but this tends to be normal x

My wife had pink/red spotting for 2 days after her internal scan, we contacted EPU and they scanned her externally and everything was fine. Maybe see if you can contact epu?

Hello! I got a scan at early pregnancy after 12 days of spotting and they put me on progesterone due to bleeding and previous losses. Apparently it's new guidance so you should phone them and ask? So far it seems to be working just keeping fingers crossed but baby was ok on last scan despite the bleeding, but it did take progesterone for me to stop bleeding. How long had it been?xx

Hi hun thank you for replying! It’s all just awful isn’t it when you just want it so bad. I’m glad things seem to be going well for you hun. I have an NHS scan in the morning so I will ask them then. I’ve been bleeding since the private scan yesterday where I saw a heartbeat and baby measuring as should I paid for a private scan yesterday as I had started bleeding brown but after he scan It turned red. How far gone are you now? Xx

Oh it's so hard isn't it. Especially after losses. That's good you have an NHS scan, definitely ask them about the progesterone as the guidance is to prescribe it if previous loss and bleeding in early pregnancy. Have to say it's not nice to take at all but I'm just hoping it's helping. I have my repeat scan on Monday when I will be 10 weeks so just keeping fingers crossed until then.

They said to me that bleeding after internal can be common where you have a sub chronic hematoma and it dislodges it and it's no harm to baby at all so fingers crossed that's all it is for you honey xxx

Thank you hun, I didn’t know it was the guidance now so I will definitely be asking for that. Can we keep in touch over the next week or so is that okay? Xxx

I had no idea either. Had never heard of it before so if they don't mention definitely ask!

Here's the form they went through with me rightdecisions.scot.nhs.uk/media/cxphrguh/progesterone-in-early-pregnancy-app.pdf

Yes definitely keep in touch, let me know how tomorrow goes xxxx

I always bleed/spot after internal scans, examinations and sex. I have a sensitive/ectropion cervix that basically bleeds when anything so much as looks at it 😅 - I have also bled in all of my pregancies, including this one. It's "normal" for me and I'm sure it's likely an irritation from the scan for you, especially if it's brown blood - but always best to get checked for peace of mind.
