Teachers - when do I start and end maternity leave?

I’m due my first baby in June and I’m already struggling at work as a KS1 teacher. I was planning on starting maternity leave on the same day everyone finishes for May half term (2 weeks before due date) but I don’t know if I will last that long.

I’m hoping to stay off until the Easter holidays of the following year but is there any way I can have my maternity leave end date fall during the holidays so I get paid for it? Or could I request to go back the last week before the Easter hols to get back into the swing of things and get paid for the 2 weeks off? Either way, does my head have to accept this or can they say no?

Any advice appreciated!

Yes you can return from mat leave during the holidays, you don't have to return physically before the holidays start.
