High platelets + aspirin?

Hello, would love your thoughts as I am not getting anywhere with the nhs!

I have had consistently high platelets, with usually high MCV and low platelet volume. Average platelets are 450 when range goes up to 410. It has gone over 500 before.

I’m currently 15 weeks pregnant. Should I be taking aspirin? The doctors don’t seem to be concerned but as it’s taken me so long to get pregnant and I am now 40, I feel this is my own chance. When I was doing ivf previously (years ago) they had me do aspirin because of this count.

Is it worth me just taking aspirin even without a doctors permission? I just don’t feel they are interested at all. Gp has ignored my requests for further tests and midwife doesn’t seem to think this is an issue.

Grateful for any thoughts of experiences.

Is this your first ongoing pregnancy, or has it been more than 10 years since your last pregnancy? Have you ever had blood pressure problems? Aspirin is used to reduce the risk of pre eclampsia.

Aspirin is sometimes recommended if platelets are consistently greater than 500

You can buy aspirin over the counter as long as the pharmacist dues not know you are pregnant. If you would feel better taking it, nobody will mind if you take 150mg aspirin at night.

Yes first ongoing pregnancy.

no blood pressure problems; sometimes it’s quite low? Is that a problem?

Aspirin would be recommended for you anyway (NICE hypertension pregnancy), but I would not be too concerned about the platelets.

Low blood pressure is good!

You can also buy 75mg aspirin in Poundland /B&M as I recently found out after the pharmacist refused to sell me any over the counter in Tesco because I was pregnant, even though I was only buying it because I’m pregnant & the midwife advised that I take it - very confusing!
