Sudden increased movement..was it okay?

If you've experienced it did everything turn out okay?

Generally my baby is quiet and doesn't move loads, infact I've been to triage for reduced movements twice.

Today I went in for sudden increased movements. From about 3am he woke me up multiple times when he rarely ever moves at night time and definitely not enough to wake me up!

All day he hasn't even had a 10 minute break of no movement which is so unlike him

The monitoring was fine according to midwife but I'm still very worried that somethings wrong

On previous monitorings I've had his heart rates sat at around 145-155 but today they sat at about 135-145. Midwife said that's ok too as his heart rate varied with movement which is what they like to see.

I'm 31+4 if any relevance

Yes!! I had this yesterday!

generally a quieter baby (compared to my other two). I’ve also been to triage a few times - all fine. Last night in bed baby went absolutely mad for about half an hour. Then all normal again 🤷🏻‍♀️. I didn’t go in but had a midwife appointment and a growth scan today and all was well. I’m 31+ 4

Actually just realised you must have have the same due date as me 😂 - snap!

Hi there it's a labour ward midwife. I think you should go to the maternity assessment unit for a checkup. The baby monitoring can't predict the future, it can only monitor the situation in real life. Any change of movements needs to be investigated

Due date twins haha!! My boys on the 96th centile we have another growth scan on Tuesday to see if he's still big. I'm glad to know it's not just me who's had this!

I had different feedback on baby moving lots. One doctor laughed and said a baby can never move too much, but my midwife said it can be a sign of distress. When I was induced and baby was very active, I was sent for monitoring.

if in doubt, get it checked out.

I had a day when my son's movements went bonkers and then the next morning he'd turn himself to a head down position

Hey, thanks for commenting. Ive just left labour ward as I went in for a CTG that apparently looked like a normal baby monitoring not a baby in distress :)

That's good to hear

anonny55 · 02/01/2025 20:26

@Kosenrufugirl is there much more they can do for me other than just do a ctg and if that looks okay then it's okay? I've had no bleeding or pain etc just increased movement. I already have a growth scan booked for Tuesday so they said no reason to book another

Thanks, I've been in for monitoring all looks okay to them but I'm still baffled as to how he's usually so quiet but now so active today which still leaves me worried

The standard monitoring in our hospital is CTG and growth scans, it seems you are getting both.

@anonny55

Sorry, didn't mean to tag you, but now can't seem to delete it!

I've had this a couple of times between weeks 30-35. My baby has been head down, but (I believe) she sometimes turns so that her limbs, rather than her back are towards my front, iykwim? Normally I can only feel her bum/back shifting around and the occasional poke of a foot or hand, but when she turns so that she is back to back with me, I feel tonnes of movement.

Thinking this may be the case for me..he seems a little more active than usual still today but no where near how crazy he was going yesterday

yes! DS was a big mover but one night it ramped up so much that I couldn't sleep for about 4 hours, went to get checked and everything fine, he didn't do it again but it was the right thing to get checked.
