Bleeding in pregnancy

Hi this is my first time posting and hoping to hear what others have experienced who have been in a similar position as myself.

Found out I was pregnant the week before Christmas going by the date of my last period I should have been about 6 weeks however the clear blue test came out as 2-3. I've since been told by professionals that you have to add on a couple of weeks as to what the clear blue test says so not entirely sure how far along I am.

New year's eve I started bleeding with the smallest of blood clots, started with just when I wiped then there was a bit on a pad so went to hospital. I did a urine sample to confirm if I was pregnant (came back as positive) but there was blood in my sample as it got worse. I had a blood test done which showed my hcg levels were lower than what they would expect at now 7 weeks pregnant however my dates are unknown so they weren't too concerned. I then had an unofficial bedside scan to see if it was an ectopic pregnancy that had ruptured (it wasn't) but they couldn't tell me anymore than that. They sent me home. Just want to add that my cervix was closed and I've only had one and off mild cramping with this. Also the doctor said that my blood was old blood and it wasn't active bleeding (it's bright red when I wipe so a bit confused with that).

Today I went back to the hospital to have a proper scan. Basically the sac was seen but nothing else. The lady doing the scan said she can't see anything abnormal and it's probably just due to being too early so left with a bit of hope. This evening the bleeding has got worse (had to change a pad because of it) and although the clots haven't got bigger there are more of them. Still no pain.

I'm going back to the hospital on Friday morning to have another blood test done to check my hcg levels and go from there.

Basically it can go one of three ways:
Miscarriage
Ectopic pregnancy
Healthy pregnancy.

I've convinced myself this is a miscarriage and I'm devastated 😢

Anyone else been through this? And what was your outcome?

Thanks

Unfortunately it could go either way at this point. If you normally have a regular 28 day ish cycle and you are very likely to be 7 weeks then you would normally see more than a sac at that point. I had an IVF pregnancy and was scanned by the clinic at 7.3 weeks and there was only a sac. They were honest that they should expect to see more at this point and was likely a failed pregnancy so I was referred to the EPU where I was rescanned 10 days later and miscarriage confirmed. I was on and off spotting brown and red throughout those 10 days.
However because it was IVF the dates were confirmed. With natural pregnancies if ovulation date is unknown there’s always the possibility you ovulated late. People with long cycles will be much earlier than their dates if using last period. So sadly all you can do is wait and see unfortunately.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me.
I do have a 28 day cycle and I'm like clockwork with my periods. I either come on the day before I'm due, the day I'm due or the day after nothing else.
However even though working with my dates and it coming out as 7 weeks I don't believe I am that far along. I ovulated roughly 2 weeks after my period and the two weeks before that me and my partner think that we didn't have sex then as he was working crazy shifts at work.
So basing it on having sex the two weeks after I should be 5 weeks which go with what clear blue says. My hcg levels came out at roughly being 4 weeks and the lady doing the scan said they normally don't see anything before 6 weeks.
I guess I'm just trying to have some hope even though in my gut it's telling me miscarriage

When they date pregnancies they’re always dated 2 weeks before ovulation. So the date you think you conceived, you add 2 weeks on. Even though you’re not actually pregnant those 2 weeks at all.

The earliest you can normally test positive on a home pregnancy test would be 9-14 days after ovulation. So when most people get a positive test they are already almost classed as almost 4 weeks pregnant.

If you think you definitely ovulated 2 weeks after your period then dating it from your last period would be spot on with official dating.

Sorry you're going through this, try not to worry to much. As you say it's hard to know which way it will go. The waiting game is the absolute worst!
It can be common to not see much on a scan with how early in the pregnancy it is, so try to stay positive.
I can only speak from my personal experience and everyone is different but I recently had a MC on xmas eve. It started off as very light spotting which i wasnt too worried about but then a few days later it gradually got more heavy and i started passing small clots. I wasn't in too much pain but was incredibly worried and was referred to my local EPAU who then confirmed it was an MC. Unfortunately incomplete so i'm now scheduled for D&C monday.
This being said, ALOT of women experience some form of bleeding in early pregnancy and go on to have healthy babies. It's not normal but very common and really not talked about enough. So try not to think the worst.
I will keep everything crossed for you, and wishing you all the best x

Thankyou so much and I'm so sorry for your MC. Hopefully the D&C goes ok on Monday even though it will be extremely sad at the time.
On Thursday the bleeding got a lot heavier and I passed a big clot roughly the size of my thumb. I was in quite a bit of pain but was back at the hospital Friday morning so just went with it until then.
Friday morning they just re-done my bloods and then I got sent home but they were phoning me at lunchtime.
12.30 I get the call and they say that my hcg levels have increased but they haven't doubled. I can't remember the exact figures but on Wednesday they were 2,000 something then on Friday 3,000 something but obviously it should have been in the 4,000 range. On the phone she was concerned that this was an ectopic pregnancy as your hcg levels rise with that but rise slowly. I had just over an hour to get back to hospital for an emergency internal scan. I was convinced at this point that it was ectopic and was preparing in my head the possibility of needing surgery.
The scan was done and thankfully it wasn't an ectopic pregnancy. The sac was seen but still nothing in it but it has a ring round it which is apparently good. The lady also said I have a large amount of blood around the sac but it was grey on the scan not black so she said that was good (can't remember why she said grey is good). Afterwards the midwife spoke to us and she said this is most likely a miscarriage but they're not going to do anything yet and I'm booked in for another scan and bloods next Friday as they will have more answers for me then. I asked if there's any chance this could be a healthy pregnancy and she said a very small glimmer of hope. She also said that if it is a miscarriage then the bleeding will get heavier and you will pass big clots. Yesterday evening the bleeding dramatically got lighter so I was filled with some hope. Unfortunately today bleeding has gone back to being heavy and I passed another big clot roughly the size of a 50p coin.
I think for me unfortunately this is a MC but just have to wait until next Friday for it to be confirmed. I'm just so sad
