Sickness bug? 24 weeks pregnant

Does anyone have any advice on how to stop being sick or minimise it? I know even asking this sounds futile. I’m currently 24 weeks.

My morning sickness went away at 9 weeks and I’m pretty confident it’s not that. The last week I have had a very bad cold, then a cough. The cold has mostly gone, the cough is still here but it’s not that causing the sickness. At least not after the first time.

This morning after going to the toilet I attempted to sleep a bit longer. I laid down and then started coughing and that did cause the first mini sickness. However since then I have been sick 7 times and it’s just happening like how morning sickness did. Have a feeling I need to be sick and then a few minutes later I am. It’s all been stomach acid and water so far. I have just attempted to eat watermelon and grapes to add something to my stomach but I’m expecting that will come back shortly.

Is there anything that can help? Did anyone go through this?

It sounds like a sickness bug, I would treat it the way you would when not pregnant. Unless any other symptoms?

I don't think it's a good idea to eat until there has been several hours passed since the last vomit episode. Just small sips of water, or diluted apple juice if you can stomach it. If it were to last more than 24hrs or you start feeling very dehydrated then seek help but otherwise it's likely to pass. Bugs like this are absolutely grim though, and being pregnant will give you added worries. Baby won't be affected by a short term bug though. Poor you, hope it passes quick.

@Jollyjoy thankyou. I think you are right, the watermelon and grapes didn’t stay down. I have just taken some rennies because I have a lot of yellow bile so hopefully it can help if it’s contributing to it. Otherwise I will stick to water and maybe attempt a banana if I manage to go a few hours.

Hope you feel better soon.

I'm almost 28 weeks and had a sickness bug over Christmas, it's awful.
You just have to try and stay as hydrated as possible with tiny sips little and often. I would manage a few crisps or a cracker at most, nothing else would stay down.

I had this at 20 weeks pregnant. I was worried about dehydration as I couldn’t keep anything down so rang my maternity unit. They asked me to come in and admitted me for a drip and anti nausea medication. Stopped it in its tracks.

@sel2223 thankyou. I am just going to try and keep my water intake up. It’s been 3hrs now since I was last sick which is positive because before that it was every 20-30 minutes. I have eaten an apple but I’m going to avoid actual meals for today and keep my stomach light.

@Toastandmarmiteandtea if it goes until tomorrow I will contact them. I just hope it’s ended or near the end already.

It’s good to hear you both recovered ok.

Hope that stayed as the last episode this afternoon and you get a good nights' sleep tonight.

@Jollyjoy it did. I haven’t been sick since then. I have also heard a few other people had a sickness bug too so I think it came from a gathering a few days prior.
