Hi everyone,

I'm 18 weeks pregnant and seem to have norovirus. I am getting worried by the amount of vomiting and diarrhoea I have and becoming dehydrated. Will the baby be ok? At what stage, if at all, would I need to go to A&E for a drip for fluids? I am taking tiny sips of water but I'm vomiting afterwards so not sure if I've much fluids in my body.

Has anyone ever had this while pregnant and everything was ok? I am very lucky and had 0 morning sickness on this baby, so I'm not used to vomiting or being sick in general.

Thanks so much for your help/advice.

I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant and had norovirus before Christmas. Midwife said baby will be ok and take what it needs from you. I couldn't keep fluids down for 12-15hrs and was worried about dehydration. Midwife said to call 111 so if I couldn't keep fluids in after 12 hours so I did who booked me in at a local pharmacy. Unfortunately there's not much you can take when pregnant so pharmacist just said sip water and take dioralyte. Also advised enterosgel to help with diarrhoea (which is safe during pregnancy too).
I also had a fever so took paracetamol. Luckily recovered without 48hrs and baby has been fine, moving as normal.

I’m 16 weeks pregnant and I am just recovering from this. It was absolutely horrible I was vomiting all night on Sunday night and most of yesterday. I still feel very queasy today but have managed a bit of toast and fluids. So I feel your pain, there seems to be a horrible strain of norovirus or the like going around.

Im sorry you’re struggling with this OP, it’s brutal at the best of times but especially when pregnant. I had it at about 8 weeks, on top of HG, so I felt absolutely out of it. Try and drink what you can, and speak to your midwife if you can’t keep anything at all down. I was in hospital numerous times for drips due to HG in my first pregnancy but baby was totally fine. Hopefully the very severe vomiting is only 24 hours or so and you can start to drink soon.
