..when people (usually men) try to minimise your fears about childbirth by saying things like "well I had kidney stones once and that's far worse than giving birth" ......not helpful at all!

I’d like to kick them in their kidney stones.

kidney stones are very painful but not as painful as giving birth. Fuck him

TheQuietestSpace · 29/12/2024 21:27

I've had kidney stones (plus removal, fuck my actual life that was worse!) and it was significantly, SIGNIFICANTLY worse than giving birth. And I had an unmedicated, atrociously managed, panic stricken birth!

HOWEVER - it is such a nonsense thing to say to anyone else because it is all on our own pain scales which will inevitably be different to each other and it is used to brush off the distress/anxiety of others. Tell them to bog off!

It’s not great, we all feel things differently and interpret pain in our own way. People who haven’t had kids themselves should definitely pipe down as they genuinely have no clue.

Just my twopence if you are pregnant and it is your first, yes it’s shit, painful and difficult. What I will say is it’s a different kind of pain, functional rather than a warning if that makes sense? It made it easier for me to deal with even though it was very intense.

It also helps that you do genuinely forget how bad it was after the fact. Good old evolution doesn’t want us to stop at just one 😂
