I ought to know this one as I am pregnant with number two, but last time I moved house and didn't get a new GP until I was about 10 weeks.

I am 7 weeks pregnant - when do I need to tell my GP?

Cheers

I rang as soon as I knew (about 5 weeks), so they could get the ball rolling.

I would tell them as soon as you can. Gives them plenty of time to get you booked in for your 12-week scan.

Agree with whiteorchid - ASAP so you get your scan at the right time.

Hi there, I fuond out I was pregnant day before my period was due, so was probably only 4 weeks. I rang the doctor up straight away on the monday to get things moving, especially to get it early with the hospital of your choice etc... but then this is my 1st so I;m probbaly being paranoid! lol My advice would be there's no harm in giving them a quick call to get your self an appointment whenever they want to see you.

fiodyl · 02/05/2008 15:19

Do you have to tell the GP? Cant you just phone the midwifes to make an appointment?

NineUnlikelyTales · 02/05/2008 15:20

OK, I will ring this afternoon, thanks! I must have been lucky last time as my scans were on time and I had the hospital of my choice - never occurred to me that I would need to get in early!

Probably depends on your local practice. For ds1, I had to talk to gp for referral to midwives, who had to refer for early scan so obviously needed to be a few weeks before 12 week scan to give time to arrange it. With ds2 at different gp, didn't really seem to need any contact with gp at all, just collected pack from practice and called midwife myself. Then again, theydon't do 12 week scans here so less urgent to get in system.

I would let them know now, as your mw may get very booked up- you want to give enough time for 12 week scan etc.
