Second pregnancy - so different!

Had a boy in 2022, suffered with some nausea (not constant mostly triggered after dinner or when brushing teeth) and obviously tired but then when that vanished it was fine, skin was perfect, hair was amazing (I look back wistfully at photos 🤣). I’m almost 15wks with baby 2 and wow what a difference!!

nausea was much more present, shattered and my skin is so so spotty! I’m like 90% sure it’s another boy too so not sure I can even say it’s because it’s a girl! So strange isn’t it, to be so different within the same person rather than person to person which makes sense! 🤣

I had no sickness whatsoever in my last pregnancy, a boy. Felt so sick this time and vomited several times in the first trimester. This one is a boy too.

so strange isn’t in. It’s the spots that are getting me down just now! Been there since day 1 and can’t seem to shift them!

They do say a girl drains your beauty but obviously it’s an old wives tale so no science in it! Was true for my girl though!

My pregnancies have been similar so far. Minor differences such as more nausea and slightly less sickness in the first trimester this time, it stopped at 9 weeks this time rather than 14 weeks with DS. Also I had one week of headaches at 5-6weeks of pregnancy that was new this time. Everything else has felt the same though. I was convinced it was a second boy but I found out last week that it’s a girl. 23 weeks so far. I am ill more this time (eg colds/coughs/flu) but that’s my DS bringing everything back from nursery.

I was sicker with my second than my first. I was suddenly sick at 16wks and my mum joked it was the second twin emerging

YorkshireIndie · 29/12/2024 10:00

My first was a boy and the second a girl

DC1 fairly easy not much nausea (boy)

DC2 felt sick, felt it might be a girl as I felt different (girl)

DC3 felt just the same as second pregnancy, felt so sick. Knew it was going to be a girl (girl)

I'm slightly disheartened by the proportion of people with worse second pregnancies 😅

I've just found out I'm pregnant with my second but was hoping for better this time, rather than worse. Last time I had nausea from 5-15 weeks and pregnancy rhinitis the entire time.

AmyW9 · 29/12/2024 10:23

Two girls here, no nausea with my first and such an easy pregnancy! Second time round and felt so nauseous until about 14 weeks, and have spent the rest of this pregnancy feeling exhausted! Caught me by total surprise how different they can be.

Noodlesnotstrudels · 29/12/2024 10:26

I had a similar experience. DD1 - sickness multiple times a day until 24weeks which then returned at 32w, awful skin / hair. DD2 i was only sick about 10 times in the whole pregnancy. Was convinced she was a boy as a result and no girl names prepared when she was born 🙈

I’m caught by surprise too! A girl would be nice to have one of each but a boy would also be lovely! But I’m not convinced the gender makes symptoms any different it’s more just the pregnancy itself however this thread does seem to have a mix of different genders and different pregnancies!

also, the bump be bumping already at almost 15 weeks 😂 Jeezo! I was easily around 23 weeks before I had a bump last time but not this time!

I'm currently 27 weeks with my second and this pregnancy has been like night and day compared to my first - so much so, I was convinced it must be a boy but, nope, both girls.

The sickness has been worse this time, the tiredness more debilitating, heartburn worse and completely different cravings too. Barely had a bump last time till 30 weeks whereas this one popped very early on. Symptoms also started earlier too.

First time round I had a lot of dental issues, appendicitis at 28 weeks and pre eclampsia in the third trimester.

Second pregnancy lots of issues with mouth ulcers, low BP causing fainting and recurring UTI's. Let's see what the last 3 months bring!

First pregnancy with DD I had daily nausea but easily tolerated and went away if I ate. I had severe SPD and lots of cramping.

Second pregnancy with DS I was vomiting up to ten times a day until I got on anti sickness meds which stopped the vomming but not the nausea which I suffered with until 16 weeks. 20 weeks now and still nauseous/dry heaving regularly. No SPD (yet!) and very little cramping though!

Blue2020 · 29/12/2024 17:30

@ecossegirl91 yes my bump appeared a lot sooner. I’m only 23 weeks but I’m sure I wasn’t like this until at least 29 weeks last time, I think it’s just weakened stomach muscles. Someone said you can get bigger quicker but not necessarily go a lot bigger than before.

I only reached 35 weeks last time so I have no idea what 35-40 is actually like. A bit worried to be honest. It wasn’t natural last time it was due to preeclampsia, and I’m on asprin. So I have a good chance of making it to full term this time.

Same, totally different, I had no nausea or really any pregnancy symptoms with my first, but bad skin, grey complexion, lanky hair and so tired. Second time round the nausea was absolutely awful, but my hair was amazing, skin glowing and had way more energy, they were both girls
