I’m 25 years old and 28 weeks pregnant today. the past 12 months I have been experiencing light pink spotting after sex. I have a referral for gynocoloy in place to find out the cause. I have had a smear test, swaps taken and cervical exams but nobody can find any reason for the spotting. This morning me and my partner did have some rough sex and this was the result, the bleeding has slowed back down to spotting now but I’m wondering if anyone has experienced this before? I’m very confused and don’t know if I’m working myself up over nothing. I saw baby on a scan Sunday and she’s been wriggling around today. I keep telling myself my smear test was clear so the bleeding can’t be anything sinister.

You need to see someone for that amount of bleeding. I'd go to hospital.

That’s more than spotting - ring 111 for advice at the minimum expect a trip to hospital.
It could be nothing and if it isn’t they can do amazing things now and 28 weeks is a good chunk of your pregnancy.

I agree, you need to go and get checked out.

Lauren999 · 25/12/2024 14:46

The bleeding has slowed right down to tiny bits of spotting now, should I be worried?

You still need to get checked to find the cause of the bleeding. Go to hospital.

OP you are best off ringing the maternity unit for advice.

NewGreenDuck · 25/12/2024 14:56

Contact the maternity service. I had a cervical erosion during my 1st pregnancy, sometimes there was no blood, sometimes spotting, other times there was lots! My GP was useless and I eventually booked myself in to maternity. Fortunately the consultant realised what it was. If it hadn't resolved itself it would have been cauterized after the birth.
But please go, you should get it checked out to be on the safe side.

As your pregnant I would definitely go and get this checked out asap. Always best to be on the safe side.

It could be something called cervical ectropion this can happen before pregnancy but the extra hormones and blood flow in pregnancy can make it worse. That said don’t assume it’s this and please go and get checked.

I’m sat next to my SIL who is a midwife and she just said probably cervical ectropian if it’s after sex. But that’s not medical advice - she said call the on call midwife. You should have a number.

Cervix more sensitive during pregnancy I believe so sex the probable cause. But do get checked. I had a bigger bleed than that with DD and she was totally fine. My friend bled through her entire pregnancy and her daughter is fine. Good luck!!

TheThreeMiracles · 25/12/2024 17:24

Phone maternity and go in to be checked, also probably not what you want to hear but I'd stop having rough sex or sex at all if this is happening, hope you are okay xx

CheriCheriLady · 25/12/2024 17:35

I hope you're already at MAS.
