Hello All

Sorry this is probably going to be a long post. Seriously unexpected situation right now.

So for context in July I found out that I had PCOS on top of having endometriosis. The doctors basically told me that there is not a cats chance in hell that I would be able to get pregnant until i lost weight. So we didn't really think about it.

On top of that I have not had an AF since the start of April which is what led to the PCOS diagnosis.
So since October I have been having the sensation that I have pulled some tummy muscles. Really painful whenever I move. Plus my bladder has been weird and I have been having accidents whenever I cough or laugh.

My OH finally forced me to contact the doctors and I went for an appointment yesterday afternoon.
I was fully expecting them to say my weight is a problem and I possibly had a bladder infection.

How wrong I was. 3 positive tests and a high blood pressure later I am blue lighted up to the nearest hospital.

They need an emergency doctor scan to check everything was okay. Heard heartbeat and then told oh you are looking to be around 28 to 30 weeks pregnant. I have now spent the night in hospital with a more thorough scan, bloods and everything else booked for today.

So yeah both me and my OH are freaking out and I have no idea what to think right now.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

What a lovely Christmas surprise!
I hope all the tests go well.
Enjoy your Christmas!

TitaniasAss · 24/12/2024 10:18

Ah this is wonderful! Congratulations!

Washywishy · 24/12/2024 10:21

Aw, so lovely! Congratulations!!!

RabbitsEatPancakes · 24/12/2024 10:47

Wow! Congratulations! If I could shorten my pregnancies to 10 weeks I'd definitely do it, you get to enjoy it now without such a long wait or any nasty first trimester 😁
You don't really need much stuff, it cab be helpful but it's so easy to get things now that I wouldn't worry too much. New baby stuff is often hardly used so check your local Facebook groups to save some money. Maybe sign up to NCT if you want some help prepping for the birth.

I'd be worried about the leaky bladder, that's not normal and I'd be worried about it worsening after the birth. Maybe see if there's a decent pregnancy yoga class near you as they have lots of different ways to engage your pelvic floor and help strengthen it.

But what lovely news for Christmas!

Caterina99 · 24/12/2024 10:56

Ah congratulations OP

Hopefully DH and the supportive family will be there for you every step of the way. Babies don’t need that much, and nowadays you can get it on Amazon prime or 24 hour asda anyway!

Fingers crossed all goes smoothly from now on

Figgygal · 24/12/2024 11:01

I mean wow!!
How old are you? Were you trying previously/wanted kids?

Lot to get your head round in a short time but clearly doable

I would let work know ASAP as technically you have to let them know for ssp purposes by now however I think the regs do allow for an "as soon as is practicable" scenario

CherryPinkAppleBlossomWhite · 24/12/2024 11:06

Wow that's lovely news, congratulations! Don't worry about getting stuff for the baby...as others have said, babies don't actually need that much! I got most of the stuff for mine from Amazon and Argos, plus loads of clothes from family and friends.

That's so exciting! How are you feeling?

Your 2025 is going to look so different from how you imagined!

Have you told anyone yet?

I'm secretly obsessed with the TV show 'I didn't know I was pregnant ' so I'm really overly fascinated.

gills22 · 24/12/2024 11:34

Hello All,

Thank you for organising the lovely comments. I will answer a few questions separately from this

Anyway scan update

  • actually 32 weeks pregnant (due 18th February)
-they are pretty sure it's a little girl
  • everything they could see all looks okay and now just waiting for blood test results.

I have told my partner and his family as well as my sister and auntie but everybody else will be over the next few days.

I have not heard of the show but I will be on the look out.

I totally get the shock but I'm weirdly teary-eyed at the news. What wonderful news, and baby is doing so well, 32 weeks so past the really worrying stage. Congratulations!

ApolloandDaphne · 24/12/2024 12:03

Goddess me that is certainly a Christmas miracle and also a massive shock to you both! I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well.

Scutterbug · 24/12/2024 12:08

Wow congratulations! What a surprise for you both, it will take time to get used to it I’m sure.

Iamsunshineinabag · 24/12/2024 12:25

Wow, what a magical Christmas Eve miracle! Congratulations to you and your DH

You still have lots of time to get everything sorted (Yay for online shopping!).

Eve/Evie as a potential baby name perhaps?!

Autumnblues24 · 05/01/2025 12:20

How are you doing now @gills22 has it sunk in yet?!

It's properly sunk in now. Although the amount that is required to sort was a lot more thank I expected.
Thankfully I have good friends and family around me which has helped a lot

Aaww congratulations @gills22 your story made me tear up 😭 it’s like a Hallmark Christmas Movie
I was told by doctors the same, here I am with my 9 month old miracle (slapping my face as I type 🤣) ❤️

Autumnblues24 · 05/01/2025 15:24

Good to hear you've got plenty of support. Wishing you all the best for the future.
