Early scan showed sac but no embryo

Hi

Based on my dates I thought I was 7+6 (LMP 29th October and conceived between 8th-12th November) We went for an early scan today and they said they could see a clear gestational sac with a yolk sac structure, but no clear embryo. Told me to go back for another scan next week to confirm but he said if my dates are correct we should really be able to see an embryo by now.

Just wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar and had a positive outcome at the next scan? I feel devastated but trying to hold onto a tiny bit of hope.

Hey OP, sorry you're going through this x

Was it an abdominal scan or transvaginal?

Hi OP, I could have written this post. My lmo was 29th oct.
I had a scan at 5.3 showed a yolk and a gestational sac of 10mm. They repeated it today at 7.5 and they didn’t know if they could see a collapsed yolk sac or a small fetus. Either way I know that a heart beat should have been seen today.
I have to go back on 6th Jan and just prepping really for the inevitable. I’ve been here before.
sending lots of love your way. ❤️

Did they give you measurement of the sac or what dates you were actually measuring to? I had a similar situation and read pretty much every post online and it was a 50:50 result. Some where baby caught up and others where it didn't. I didn't have a positive outcome but hope you are part of the 50% for whom it works out! The waiting is the hardest but the best advice is to guard your heart but assume you're pregnant till told otherwise.

Were you physically tracking ovulation or are your dates just from your LMP?

LMP is just a loose estimate that midwives use to book your appointments and scans in before you get your official due date at your 12 week dating scan. It's not accurate for a lot of women, particularly if you have irregular or longer than average cycles.

I had an early scan and measured 15 days behind LMP date. By my dating scan at 12 weeks i'd caught up a bit to 10 days and it's been consistently there ever since. I'm now 27 weeks pregnant.

I'd you're actually under 6 weeks then that would be totally normal not to see an embryo. Good luck with your follow up scan

Thanks so much for all of your replies.

@Harriet1989 it was transvaginal

@Hopefull441980 so sorry you’re going through this too. I’m sure you were the same as me and hoping to give some good news to family over Christmas. Sending positivity for your follow up on the 6th ❤️

@houwseevryweekend they didn’t give me a date but the sac measured 11.6mm. Like you I’ve read so many different outcomes online and I’m fully preparing for the worst but hoping for the best. I’m sorry you experienced the same and didn’t have a positive outcome x

@sel2223 I was tracking ovulation with the clearblue sticks and got my LH surge on 12th November so I thought I was pretty accurate with dates, but still hoping for the best. Congratulations on your pregnancy!
