Cravings kicking in - but bad ones!

I am 10 weeks pregnant and although I still have sickness and food aversions, I am really craving full fat coke, Lucozade sport, chocolate cake and dairy milk chocolate! It's very specific with these things but do I just indulge my cravings or fights them? I do occasionally crave fruit but very rarely. What a terrible and unhealthy thing to crave while pregnant! Anyone else having cravings but unhealthy ones?!

It’s honestly fine, eat what makes you happy! The baby takes the nutrients it needs from your body, eating cakes and lucozade won’t cause harm.

Narkacist · 17/12/2024 20:34

Your body know what it needs, but go for caffeine free coke if you are drinking a lot.

Littlemiracles232504 · 17/12/2024 20:42

At least it's not fabric softner like mine was 😂
I used to suck and chew clean clothes from the machine only if I used the blue lenor softner 😳
It was a very strange time of my life, I still look back and think wtf was my body craving for me to do that 🫣

OptimisticRealist2024 · 17/12/2024 20:48

My cravings are mainly for crap/sweet food, namely oven chips in baked beans, mangoes, and satsumas 🤤 but my sickness is so bad I have elected not to care. Fed is better than not. ❤️ Be kind to yourself, eat the things you want, try to eat a vegetable when the mood takes you.

daisyelle · 17/12/2024 21:27

I'm a veggie (have been for years) and when I was pregnant all I wanted was a coronation chicken baguette from Morrisons, no idea why and also why it was so incredibly specific 🤣🤣 (I didn't have one and the craving went away instantly after having DD but it was a loooong 9 months)

Motherof1and2dogs · 17/12/2024 21:47

@Littlemiracles232504 that is crazy! I've heard women can crave strange things like coal and rocks as well during pregnancy. Softener is still probably healthier than coke and chocolate though 😂 loving reading people's pregnancy cravings though, very interesting!

@daisyelle reminds me of Phoebe from friends when she is pregnant and craves meat! Although yours is very specific 😂 could have been a lot worse though! I have gone right off chicken and meat and I'm not a veggie. Funny what pregnancy does to us!

All I wanted was Aldi chocolate milk! Maybe you are having a girl, all sweet cravings for me!

Unicorntearsofgin · 17/12/2024 22:08

It’s been sweet crap for me too. Some fruit but loads of rubbish and fizzy drinks. After suffering from HG though I am just happy to keep something down.

LilyJessie · 17/12/2024 22:20

I didn't have any cravings, I just fancied just beige, beige, beige and more beige.
But, in a bid not to gain a gazillion pounds or get GD by the end I tired to be sensible with it.
It's hard when it is what your body wants!

At 10 weeks your body is going through a lot, I ate terribly the first 12 weeks of my first pregnancy - no fruit or veg at all because they made me vomit.
I would just have a bit of what you fancy for now, your cravings are likely to change over the pregnancy and in the 2nd trimester you'll probably feel better and be able to eat a bit healthier again

My first pregnancy I craved anything cheesy, soo McDonald's cheese burgers, wotsits, quavers, Doritos and I used to crave capri sun orange.

My second pregnancy it was big slabs of dairy milk just the plain ones.

My third pregnancy it was scampi and salad, then I went on to sniffing fairy fabric softener and I could of drank it (I didn't) was my weirdest craving.

My fourth pregnancy I craved cheese and tomato on toast and Granny Smith apples and mars bars. I also craved blackcurrant drinks soo capri suns, ribena lol 🤣

Goldpanther · 18/12/2024 11:40

I was advised to drink about 2L of lucozade sport in my first trimester to help with side effects from IVF, so I wouldn't worry about that! (The sport one is caffeine free and okay for pregnancy)

My real craving was cheese and pineapple, or pepperoni pizza, but only the crosta and mollica one! Others were just gross!

SomeOfMyChildrenAreFurry · 18/12/2024 12:42

@Motherof1and2dogs Your body is doing a really big job right now and pregnancy can be so tough. I know that the advice is to eat a well-balanced diet, but you absolutely can indulge a little!

I had pretty severe hyperemesis and reflux with DS, was still being sick about 5 times a day on the max dose of all the meds they could give me, and was nearly hospitalised twice. When I finally could eat, all I wanted was really salty McDonald's fries and full fat coke (and also occasionally drank the cold juice from the jalapeño jar.. it was absolutely delicious but 10/10 do not recommend with reflux and HG 😂). Safe to say that my diet was either non-existant or utter s**te throughout the entirety of my pregnancy.

And guess what.. DS is now a strapping great big strong lad, performing at the top of his class, and he is an absolute rocket on the running track and performing incredibly well in his football and Brazilian jiu-jitsu clubs. All of this is to say, if satisfying those cravings is the worst thing you do, you'll be just fine! Enjoy!! 😊

Hi OP. I wouldn't worry and just go with what makes you happy.

First pregnancy I didn't have any cravings (which I'm gutted about because DH always said he'd go to the shops for me any time day or night and didn't get to test the theory) but only ate beige food. I think I lived on cream of chicken soup and chicken dipper salad wraps. Son and I both perfectly healthy.

This pregnancy has been wild. Only 8 weeks and cravings changing more than the weather. Cheese and chocolate even though I've not had either in over a year because I was breastfeeding a CMPA baby, big macs, mushrooms, pickled onions, chocolate cake and can't get enough mayonnaise. Unfortunately for me, I've also got awful morning sickness so most of these things make me incredibly ill and I'm struggling to keep them down. I did some brief reading and came across an article that said cravings correlate to what your body needs so if you're craving dairy, you're possibly lacking in calcium etc. but no idea if there's anything in it.
