Missed period 3 weeks after depo shot

Hi guys I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I had the depo shot 3 weeks ago. I’m 4 days late for my period but nothing has come. I have nausea, sharp painful cramps and random acid reflux I have never had before. I know the depo shot can cause some people to miss periods or bleed throughout but I was told it takes a couple of shots over time for your period to completely stop not just after your first depo shot. I have taken so many tests but they all keep coming back negative. I’m not sure what’s going on…anyone else had this experience?

You’re not late for your period because you no longer have a ‘normal’ cycle due to the depo. You don’t have a period to be late for anymore. Didn’t they explain how the depo works before they gave it to you? Sometimes it takes a couple of injections for bleeding to stop, but it can happen after the first one.

If the last time you had sex was at least three weeks ago, the most recent pregnancy tests you’ve taken are accurate.

I had no bleeding at all when I was on depo, even from the first one. If you've done a lot of negative tests I think you're fine and it will settle down re pain etc, hopefully you won't feel anything in future. But if you're worried, go to the doctor.

I had no periods on the depo injection at all. That was the only benefit of it.

I've been on depo 22 years so don't remember exactly, but am fairly sure my periods disappeared almost immediately once I started it - that was one of the reasons my Dr at the time prescribed it over other contraceptives because my periods were horrendous.

If you're still concerned see if you can call your surgery, the nurse or matron should be able to talk through your specific situation, but from my own experience I don't think this is unusual? I also can't remember if you have to use secondary contraception after having it for the first time while it settles in or it's instant, but your nurse should know.

Pretty good benefit though!

Yeah but I put on three stone on a year so had to come off it.

Hi! Thanks for the message. I also forgot to mention on that after the 20th, on the 24th I was intimate with my partner and we were told to use protection as I was not fully covered for the first 7 days. Well we had a little accident so the next day in the evening I was able to get hold of a plan b. And they briefly explained how it would work but they told me it never stops period as soon as you get it hence why I’ve been so worried lol. But yes I hope ur right about the pregnancy thing 🙏

UPDATE! Forgot to mention I had unprotected intercourse on the 24th when I wasn’t fully covered by the depo yet (idiotic mistake) and got a plan b the next evening. Hence why I’m also worried but hopefully it’s all just in my head
