I've gone and delayed my section for a week - wetting my pants now...

Don't know if i'm doing the right thing. Just delayed my elective by another week, was supposed to be end of this week. Consultant said ok but would rather do it this week. I just felt at 38+5 weeks it was a bit too early. Am I nuts? Really hope i don't go into labour before, I mean yes if i managed a VB, no if i have to have an emergency section. Oh gawd what have i done?

You will be fine. Babies benefit from the full cooking cycle and so do you. Chances are in a week you'll still be sitting there feeling bulbous, but if you do deliver. it could be a wonderfully short, successful experience

Hello ruty

If you go into labour they will still do an elective but you may end up having to wait a little while if an emergency comes in.

I went into Labout at 39 weeks exactly with both DC strangely and waited a couple of hours with DC1 and about 30 minutes with DC2 before they did the sections.

Deep breaths and relax

thanks wmmc. Did a big shop today and brought the bags in thinking, oh well, doesn't matter if i go into labour now..then i go and delay section!

thats good to know bringmesunshine. I kind of was hoping for a specific day for the surgeon who did me last time, she was really good - ah well we'll see...

obviously meant labour not Labout

belgo · 30/04/2008 16:50

You've done the right thing. I have a friend who cancelled her 38 week section because she felt it was too early. She had a section at just over 40 weeks and the baby was clearly only just ready then to be born.

Good luck!

You have now got time in the next week to get your toes painted or have a bikini wax

ruty · 30/04/2008 16:56

as if anyone could reach down there to give me a bikini wax!

thanks belgo - they reassure me the baby is ready, but just doesn't feel quite right, especially as ds was 41 weeks. I'll probably go into labour on Saturday at midnight now though!

I had my second section (elective) at 39+5 (so exactly same as you will be ruty) and all was fine. This was when the hospital chose to do it. DS was a lovely healthy weight (8lb 15oz) with excellent agpars.

They did ask if I was in labour when they were prepping me and I imagine the procedure would have been slightly different if the answer had been yes.

Rocky12 · 30/04/2008 17:43

I had a induction at 38 weeks. Must admit I didnt like it at all. My son was just not ready to come out and almost clung to the walls. I have heard say that actually the normal pregnancy term is 41 weeks as opposed to 40 weeks.

As long as you are accepting that babies come when they are ready I expect another week will be fine. You might have some warning that you are about to go into labour so dont hang around if you get some signs!!

Good luck!

now panicking about every tightening! But hopefully it will work out for the best.
