Measuring behind on early scan but pregnancy symptoms getting stronger

Hey guys, I hope you’re all well! I had an early scan last week at 7+3 but was measuring 6+4, although it was a normal abdominal scan and my bladder wasn’t full. I was measuring 6 days behind although I’m fairly sure I know when I ovulated because I always have really bad ovulation cramps. I’ve been worried about this and will get a rescan later this week, and also I am aware that this could be bad news too as many people go on to miscarry who are measuring behind on an early scan. However I’m so confused because since the last 4-5 days, I’ve started having bad nausea and I’m gagging all day. Every night after dinner I vomit like 10 mins later (today I vomited after lunch too 😫) and I have bad food aversions, I don’t feel like eating much, there’s nothing I’m craving. I feel like as soon as I started preparing myself for bad news even though we saw a heartbeat, the nausea, extreme tiredness, and everything started. It’s so difficult not knowing what’s going on 🥺 any advice guys?

Was everything OK at the scan? Did you see a heartbeat?

It's pretty common to measure out in the very early stages as they are literally dealing in fractions of millimetres. The most accurate one for dating is the 12 week scan.

I had the same, they told me to go to a&e if bleeding so I assumed the worst, went back 2 weeks later all fine. Have a happy healthy baby now. Don't worry, I think early exams should be banned unless for medical reasons they cause more stress than anything.

Also forgot to add literally 2 days after first scan I developed morning sickness and didn't go away

I was measuring 6 days behind but yes there was a heartbeat and the sonographer didn’t seem at all worried.

That’s so me! I think I developed morning sickness the evening after the scan and it’s still here and I just vomited again, just after drinking squash 🥺

Sorry you’re worried OP xx

I had a scan at 7 weeks and was measuring 5 days behind, just had my 12 week scan and now I’m measuring 4 days ahead. They’ll have little growth spurts and periods where it slows down a bit. Try not to overthink it (easier said than done I know!)

This is the reason the first scan is usually 12 weeks for most women

It’s stressful tbh 🥺 especially as I’ve had miscarriages in the past. But I’m trying to think on the bright side too, I guess the fact that I’m having bad nausea is a good sign? It must be?

I do understand, but the only reason I got that scan done is because I was having shoulder pain and cramping on one side for a few days before it and I was scared of ectopic.

Sure completely understandable xx

just meant it as reassurance but should have worded it differently

100% a good sign that you have strong symptoms! Although with my 7 week scan my symptoms had completely dropped and I was thinking the worst and it was all good

Sorry to hear about your previous losses, that’s understandably going to make you feel more anxious xx

It's definitely common for them to be out that early due to the tiny sizes. I had a scan at EPU at 6 weeks where they couldn't see the baby yet, which was worrying because I know many people see a heartbeat at that stage. At my rescan at 8+1 I was measuring 4 days behind. By my dating scan at 12+1 the measurements matched up perfectly.

I would say if there was a heartbeat and the sonographer was happy then you probably don't have much to worry about. I know that's easier said than done though!

404ErrorCode · 11/12/2024 10:42

6 days out can so easily happen when trying to measure the baby at this stage. The growing symptoms is a good sign, as is the heartbeat.
It is so easy to say don’t worry, but when you have had losses, it’s easier said than done, I know.

Try to keep busy, and hopefully the weeks will fly by until your next scan.

My husband was at home today so I got a scan done and thankfully everything is looking good. I’m meant to be 8+1 today and that’s what I’m measuring too. I have no idea how I was measuring behind last week! Must have been because it was unclear as my bladder was empty. Also my uterus is tilted to the back I was told at today’s scan so that’s probably why. So relieved though!
