Bleeding and pains

Hi I have name changed but have posted recently in regard to a miscarriage I thought I was having which has been ruled out at least for now. As of today I am 6+4 from a frozen embryo transfer, I was sent to A&E as per advice of NHS 111 at 5+6 because I had woken up with a bit of a heavy, red bleed and was having really bad period like pains which to me felt like they were more on the left side than anywhere else. I was sent to the gynae ward and had blood tests and an internal examination, they said my cervix was closed and they could only see a tiny amount of blood, and my blood hCG came back at 22,857 which they said was really high. I was discharged and asked to come back the next day for a scan to make sure I wasn't having an ectopic. This scan confirmed my pregnancy is in the right place and the sonographer said I was measuring 5+4 instead of 5+6 but we could see a clear sac and yolk sac which we were assured was perfectly normal as was the fact I was measuring a couple of days behind. She said she couldn't see anything to be immediately concerned about and seemed to be quite positive that things were going ok so far. The specialist nurse we saw after the scan said she thinks the pain could be coming from my corpus luteum and that my hCG levels are "brilliant" - I have not had a repeat blood test done since this. We do have another scan booked for Thursday morning where I will be 7 weeks, I am absolutely shitting myself for this I can't lie. My partner seems to be in the mind of it will end in tears at this scan as we discovered a missed miscarriage earlier this year at our first scan which I was 7+1 on the day of. Obviously I can understand his worries as I feel the exact same although I am really trying my hardest to hold onto some hope that things will be great this time. What is really worrying me is that I am still having bleeding, it's not a lot, in fact it's a tiny amount on and off throughout the day, it's not constant or bright red at all. It's very light in colour and quite mucusy/stringy in appearance but one or two wipes and it disappears for maybe a few hours then comes back. I am still having on and off pain alongside this which I was told was just everything stretching and changing inside, this feels like the start of a period really quite crampy to begin with then fading off into quite a dull achy feeling. I've heard stories of people who've bled and their pregnancy has been fine but it just worries me, I'm constantly checking to see if I'm bleeding any heavier or if it's turned red and I'm just so bloody nervous for my follow up scan on Thursday 🙁 any words of advice or even some positive stories would be appreciated. I'm hoping for the best but also really preparing for the worst 🙁

Hi OP
I was in exactly your position (DD now 19) after a frozen transfer. I think I was around 4/5 weeks when the bleeding started. At first it was just a bit and kind of brown in colour and stringy. It then became bright red and there was quite a lot. Honestly it was absolutely petrifying. I was absolutely convinced it was a MC. However it wasn’t thank god! It was actually exactly this time of year too and I think of it every year. The amount of blood and the colour convinced me it had failed.

Try to stay positive and remember what they told you at your last check in… thst everything is fine. Sending hugs 🫂

@Prettydisgustingactually thank you for your comment! I'm glad to hear that your pregnancy worked out despite you having the same issue, it's so scary and just not what you ever expect to see when pregnant. I think it's too drilled into people (including me) that blood = miscarriage or other problems when really that isn't always the case...did you ever find out what caused your bleeding? I am on progesterone that I need to use vaginally 3x a day and have heard that can cause some bleeding so I don't know at this point but like you said I'll try keep in mind that the sonographer and nurse never saw anything wrong or even anything to suggest that we should be even a little bit worried!

@HazelnutLattePls At first they said implantation bleeding but then when it was quite a lot of blood I think they discounted that. It hadn’t happened at all with my first IVF pregnancy so for me I was absolutely convinced it was MC.

You are right though, we are conditioned to think blood means game over. Loads of women bleed throughout pregnancy and go on to have perfectly healthy babies. It’s one of the most terrifying things that has ever happened to me. I remember every second of the whole awful drama. Honestly I think being told everything is ok is such a huge positive to hold onto. Just keep telling yourself you are pregnant and try not to get stressed. Is it your first IVF?

Please let me know how you get on. Absolutely everything crossed for you x

@Prettydisgustingactually so sorry love I've not been on here for a couple of days, they actually suggested the same to me until I showed them the photos I'd taken of it all over my thighs and bed (sorry that's grim but it really was that bad). I fell pregnant through a fresh transfer earlier this year but sadly when we did the 7w scan it was discovered that I had an empty sac and I went on to miscarry a few weeks later. That's why I've been so nervous this time round but obviously the anxiety just multiplied by 1000 when I had the bleed. I personally have relatives who have told me they've bled and everything's been fine so I'm trying to keep in mind that like you say, it can be normal. Yes I agree it is terrifying to go through, I woke up and just completely panicked and burst into tears when I saw the amount and colour of blood. I agree it's definitely good, I'm just worried because they only saw a yolk sac but they did also say I was measuring 5+4 despite me actually being exactly 6w at the time, this is my first IVF, we had one remaining embryo on ice so if this one doesn't work out it'll be a whole new round, I think if it comes to that though we will wait until after the new year x

@Prettydisgustingactually my follow up scan is tomorrow morning so I'll definitely let you know how that goes, I'm a bag of nerves really but I had a dream last night that I went and everything was fine so I'm hoping that will somehow manifest and become the reality tomorrow 🤞🏽 x

@HazelnutLattePls
Yay 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Aw that’s made my day! I’m so happy for you Best news ever!!!!

So sorry to hear about your first pregnancy, that’s heartbreaking.

We got pregnant on my 4th ivf and DD was the 5th with a frozen transfer. They warned me the embryo wasn’t the best as it was quite fragmented, but she was so meant to be. I didn’t get to transfer with the 3rd cycle as the drugs weren’t right. Then we moved clinics and got pregnant first go.

Super happy for you. Please look after yourself and get lots of rest. Xx

Great news OP!

I didn’t have IVF but I was really suprised by how strong the stretching pains were in the first trimester.

Hey so just to update you, my happiness has once again been short lived. I started bleeding bright red again yesterday at work and although 17/18 hours later it has since turned brown it's still very period like. It soaked through my underwear on my way home from work and I'm genuinely terrified despite knowing blood doesn't always equal bad. I'm waiting for the EPU to call me back as I feel I need a scan to know whether or not things are ok but I'm contemplating just booking a private one, I hate not knowing what's going on. I'll be absolutely broken if I've lost this baby as it was just a week ago we got the surprise of our lives seeing a baby measuring bang on with a heartbeat 😞
