Can I wear a hat with a bump?

This is a very frivolous question but you are likely to be the only people I know with an opinion!

I am going to my best friend's big posh wedding this sat. I am 5 months pg with a big bump but I think looks lovely under my new bright pink isabella oliver wrap dress.

It's in a catholic church and i am giving a reading. Does this mean I have to wear a hat or one of those fancifier things? And can you wear a hat with a bump or will it look silly???

So long as it's on your head I think you'll look just fine.

freakypenguin · 30/04/2008 11:29

i wore a feather fancy when 4 months pg to my friend's wedding - and i was doing the reading too! the wrap dress sounds fab. i wore a wrap dress to the wedding as well!

so i say, go for it!

my advice is more on the shoes - make sure they're comfy. i bought new heels and couldn't get the hang of balancing the bump on them. took them off in the end.

you don't have to wear hats in catholic churches, but you can if you like.

oohh, is it the kimono wrap one? I've bought it too for a wedding in a couple of weeks lol

thank god its not the same wedding lol

Why ever not?

JulesJules · 30/04/2008 12:51

I thought you meant the hat had a bump
I don't see why not. Wrapover dress will be fab with hat or fascinating feathery thing, I echo the advice re: shoes though - make sure they're comfy!

jeanjeannie · 30/04/2008 13:18

There are so few excuses in life to wear a hat - I say 'wear one with pride'

MrsBadger · 30/04/2008 13:32

I took to wearing huge hats when I was pg on the grounds that they made my bump look smaller - formal ones for weddings, Henley etc and a big straw cowboy hat day-to-day

make sure the congregation can see your face when you're reading though
and remember wedding hats in the rain are rarely a good look

if u wanna wear a hat wear one, if not go for a fascinator they are gorgeous. ebay has a great selection and there are many shops on there that make them to order - ie match your exact colours for a very reasonable price. xx

I'm glad I asked - you lot have really made me laugh.

Dizzy - It's the pink ruffle dress. They had so many lovely dresses, inc the kimono - i wanted to order them all just to try them on.

Badger - I didn't have the balls to go for a big hat so have settled for a feathery fascinator thing. I'm still not sure it doesn't look too much with the big bump but we'll see.

I'm sorry i couldn't take your advice about the shoes - have gone for high & sexy as they're the only bit of me tha's not pg! But i will take some ballet pumps as back up

that surely is the most bizarre question ever? unless you have a very short neck i should think that the top of your head will be quite far from the bump so no one will think "oh looookkkk!!! a bump with feathers on!"

i went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago (35 weeks pregnant at the time). i looked like a hippo wearing a silk parachute. i so wished i had feathers or a hat to distract the eye, but sadly we don't do headgear in europe...

You mean I look like this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Miss_Naughty?

PortAndLemon · 01/05/2008 21:07

You don't have to wear a hat, but i would given an excuse like that.
