Placenta

I'm just watching a baby program and the mother wants to cook the placenta and turn it into a pate and eat it.

The thought of it makes me feel very very sick but I dont like pate full stop.

Would you/have you or do you know anyone who has done this?

I know the MW offered to cook it for my MIL when she had SIL but she said no.

My MW mentioned this and I went eeeekkkk. Apparently it is good to avoid post partum hemorage/anemia and postnatal depression. Hmmm still not convinced

Nope I'm not convinced either.

No but I have heard of someone who kept their placentas and planted them in the garden witha tree on top

We were going to plant ours (planned homebirth) under our apple tree but had an em cs so couldn't. We will next time I hope.

There was an interesting discussion on Radio 2 a couple of years ago and a midwife of 30 years said she'd cooked the placenta twice. In one case it was a homebirth in the absolute middle of nowhere and she was adamant that it saved the mother's life. PPH and no hope of a quick transfer (at least an hour to hospital) and the placenta turned the situation around.

Aren't we the only mammals that don't eat the placenta or did I dream that?

I might consider eating mine next time. Good with onions apparently.

I think we are ShowofHands. I could never ever eat it.

The idea of eating something that comes out of ME and that I have grown for 9 months is very weird to me. It is like eating the baby...yuk yukk but apparently it is full of nutrients
