Hey guys, I’m currently 7+2 and everything seems to be going well so far although I don’t really have many symptoms except tiredness. I went out for dinner and my shoulder was hurting a little, just aching a little. It wasn’t very painful probably a 1/10 in terms of pain. The pain isn’t really there anymore but it was a bit worrying as I’ve heard of ectopic pregnancy and a close friend had it two years ago. I don’t have any other symptoms, just the little ache of my shoulder which is till my elbow tbh. It’s my left shoulder. I’ve booked a private scan for tomorrow morning because I’m worried, but does this sound like an ectopic to you guys? I will definitely call my GP in the morning if the ache is still there or if it gets more painful.

I’m not sure if it could have been due to the weather too? I wore a cardigan and went out in the cold when I probably should have worn my coat.

I've had two ectopics with no shoulder pain.

In essence, you need to get checked to rule it out. On the slim chance that you experience dizziness, faint, anything else at all weird, stat to A&E, no messing.

Thank you, I will definitely go to A&E if I experience any of the above. It’s so worrying I don’t know what to do, the pain is hardly there now but it was so random. I have a scan booked for 10am tomorrow but that feels like so far away.

I suppose an aching shoulder could be due to anything really but it is a symptom to keep an eye on. My understanding is that it happens when the ectopic has already ruptured and it's to do with internal bleeding. You would expect to be experiencing one sided pain if that were the case.

With my ectopic I was experiencing severe one sided pain when it was diagnosed and had no shoulder pain - it hadn't ruptured.

Hope your scan goes well x

I had shoulder tip pain when my ectopic ruptured. But I had already collapsed at that stage. It was quite different from shoulder joint pain.

dreamerkr · 05/12/2024 21:30

I don’t think it’s shoulder tip pain, it’s more in between my shoulder and neck. And the ache travels down to my elbow. It’s hardly noticeable now but I’m still worried 🥺 I don’t have any other symptoms like cramps or one sided pain etc

Also experienced the same at that stage. I'm 28 weeks now so was fine in my situation. Hope the scan goes well🥰

Thank you so much, I don’t think it’s an ectopic tbh but I want to be sure so I’ve booked the scan

I'd book in via the MAU rather than a private scan if you can, I imagine you'll get referred there anyway and you won't be paying for it

Wishing you the best.

I have had a shoulder pain on my left side since about 10 weeks - I have had all the scans etc and not ectopic and am just putting it down to lying on that side now when I never used to and all the hormone changes loosening my ligaments etc!

I was just as worried as you when it started but it all turned out to be fine so get it checked just in case but fingers crossed it is just your body adapting to doing something amazing 😀

Mum4MrA · 06/12/2024 12:05

Hope your scan goes well.

dreamerkr · 06/12/2024 12:07

Thanks guys! They changed my scan time to 1:45pm but I’m feeling fine today, no pain at all

@dreamerkr I measured 2.5 weeks behind at first. Was told it was a pregnancy of unknown location and id likely miscarry. Went back a week later and seen a yolk sac and that was it was then again told id miscarry. Didn't miscarry just ovulated later than I did every other month (the one month I didn't take ovulation test!)

Try not to stress. Private scans are awful for anxiety..the reassurance only lasts 10 mins in my experience then back to worrying about something else.

If baby was a little curled up that could alter dates massively at this stage! I had them regularly and always measured a few days behind then a few days forward. Well my little boy measures 3 weeks ahead now and is on the 96th centile!!
