Hello! Hoping someone can help me! I'm just 7 weeks pregnant and have a cold. So I took a lemsip and then realised I wasn't supposed to. Should I be worried or as it was just one will that be ok??
Thank you!

You and your baby will be fine. Women take far worse things during pregnancy with no effects.

FionaSkates · 04/12/2024 10:30

You will be fine. Don’t give it another thought. X

It's done now anyway so no point in worrying. As pp said, women have taken a lot worse than that in pregnancy!

Meowingtwice · 04/12/2024 11:02

It will be ok, its one. We all make a mistake during pregnancy. The issue is with repeat use.

SophieM1987 · 04/12/2024 11:04

Thank you everyone! I think I just needed reassuring messages. And to check Google before I do anything in future! Ha

If it’s any reassurance, twenty plus years ago, you routinely didn’t test for your pregnancy to after your first, or even second missed period, so someone could have taken of sort things without realising they were pregnant.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 04/12/2024 11:17

Sorry, but why shouldn't you take lemsip in pregnancy?

RabbitsEatPancakes · 04/12/2024 11:18

1 lemsip is nothing. Please don't worry. They just say not to as they can't ethically test medicine on pregnant ladies.

The biggest issue with cold and flu medicine is it can dry up your milk when breastfeeding.

LittleTwiggy · 04/12/2024 11:27

I did the same in my first pregnancy OP. It was fine. I bet loads of people do it without realising you’re not meant to. I also accidentally ate smoked salmon and cured meats as I forgot I wasn’t meant to.

LolaJ87 · 04/12/2024 11:30

Isn't Lemsip just paracetamol? Paracetamol is fine is pregnancy! Unless it was Lemsip Max/some other variation with different active ingredients. Even so, a once off will be alright.

I read there's phenlyphrine in there which you should avoid

Pretty sure this is just in Lemsip max. Is that the one you had? Either way, once will be fine.

SophieM1987 · 04/12/2024 12:38

@LolaJ87 Good question! It might have just been normal lemsip and not max! Took it so quickly and didn't even think. Everyone's comments are so helpful! First pregnancy and I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing! But I feel better now!

@SophieM1987 you'll be fine! Congrats on your pregnancy. I'm not far behind you (5+4) but it's my second, I was definitely a lot more anxious last time. It's a nervy time!

I wanted to take one yesterday and I asked chatGPT if basically said a few here and there isn’t awful it’s regular use of that pheyliadrine thingy that’s a possible cause for concern. But I doubt one is an issue or even two

oops sorry didn’t mean to quote you, fat fingers

lataraw · 05/12/2024 09:12

I have also looked this up for myself and figured the odd one or two is fine - there's no conclusive evidence it's bad and if it is it's probably only with consistent use

ItsReallyOnlyMe · 05/12/2024 10:26

I also worried about this as the guidelines indicated I shouldn't have taken it (I was 4 weeks pregnant and didn't know).

Baby is now 27 years old and was completely fine! Good luck with your pregnancy.
