I have a dating scan on Friday which will put me at around 6 weeks. If I have my dates anywhere near right. What can I expect to see

I had a scan at 6 week 0 days due to bleeding and saw the baby with a heartbeat, yolk sac and foetal pole. The foetus was small and there wasn't much to see that resembled a baby but the heart was pulsing away. That was an internal scan.

If I was you I would go in with very low/realistic expectations so you don't come away feeling extra anxious or disappointed.

While it's possible you will see a tiny embryo and heartbeat, it's not guaranteed at all. This will normally become visible between 6-7 weeks so you're at the very lower end of that and scans this early tend to be more about whether it's developing in the right location than anything else.

At 5 weeks there is likely nothing to see apart from the thickening of the uterine wall and maybe an empty gestational sac if you're lucky. Between week 5 and 6 you start to see the fetal pole and yolk sac, then 6 weeks+ for a HB. Even if your dates are just a couple of days out and you're not quite 6 weeks, it will make a big difference to what you can or can't see..... it's very rare to see a HB before 6 weeks.

Good luck.....fwiw, I did see a HB at 6+3 in my first pregnancy and 6+1 in this one.
