Pregnant after a D&C

So I had a D&C at the end of October due to the pregnancy not developing . I have not had a period since but I had a negative pregnancy 3 weeks after the procedure. I woke this morning feeling nauseous so I did a test and it was positive now I’m worried falling again so quick and if I should have waited or if the same thing will happen again as we don’t actually know why the pregnancy didn’t develop properly before.

can anyone help everything I read says a miscarriage is likely as I’ve had one previous or that it will happen because I should have waited.

Please don't worry - I'm not sure where you read a miscarriage is likely but this is untrue. Your risk is no higher than any other pregnancy for having a miscarriage after one loss, regardless of how that loss was managed. Most women that get pregnant after a d&c are absolutely fine x

I had a mmc and eventually d&c. While I had two periods before then conceiving my son I did try again straight away. I actually know many people who had a miscarriage and then their next pregnancy was fine. Even an ectopic and she went on to have two children after.

The only reason they advise you to wait for a period before trying again is to help with dating the pregnancy, as it is tricky to know when you ovulated otherwise. You are actually slightly less likely to miscarry again if you conceive within the first 6 months. I had one period after my D&C and then conceived again, currently 24 weeks and all going well. Please don't worry, I don't believe that's true. My friend fell pregnant before she got a period after her D&C and has a little girl now. Her pregnancy immediately after that was fine too. I had a D&C in February and fell pregnant in June, I'm now 25 wks. I believe it's more likely things will be okay. I told myself that there was a problem with baby and that's why it happened so it was unlikely to happen again. Don't get me wrong the anxiety was awful in the beginning but speaking with the midwife through lots of tears in the early weeks was good as she said the same circumstances were very unlikely to happen again. (I found out at my 12 wk scan with no bleeding or pain or any sign there was a problem). Good luck, I hope your pregnancy progresses well 🩷

I had a MMC at 12 weeks and a D&C
I got pg within a week which I had no idea was possible, it was a bit of a shock.
Period hadn't returned and we only DTD once. I was basically pg for a year.
She is 19 now and doing well at Uni!!!

I had a MMC in July and the consultant after my D&C told me there is no medical reason to wait for a period and you’re no more likely to miscarry after falling pregnancy after MMC. I’m currently 14 weeks. All the best OP, take care of yourself as pregnancy after loss is so hard 💐

Also when you register with your hospital say you don’t know when your last period was as they’ll likely offer you an early scan to date you and that might bring some reassurance.

I am reading this feeling reassured because I am due a d&c on Wednesday, but we are just desperate to try again straight away. Did you fall pregnant before your period came back? 🌈

For me it was the second cycle after my MMC but we tried from after I got my negative test. All the best and sorry you’re going through this.
