Looking for some advice or anyone who's been through anything similar.

For context I'm now almost 33 weeks pregnant. Almost 2 weeks ago when away I had an episode of almost passing out. It was horrible and scary and went to MAU to be checked. They discovered I had low iron and 3/4 days later I was given an iron infusion.

Fast forward to today, I was driving along the duel carriage way with my son. And the exact same thing happened, I felt myself starting to go really hot and fuzzy and had to pull up onto the grass verge and was close to passing out again.

Again, I went to get checked and they found nothing wrong. They repeated bloods, observations were all normal, done a ECG, listened to baby and tested my urine. All was as it should be.

They've now told me if this happens again to go to A&E. I understand they've done what they can but gave me no indication or anything of what could be causing it. I'm terrified of it happening again ☹️

Have they repeated your blood tests since the iron infusion?

Did they say exactly how low your iron was? Do you have any other symptoms currently? X

I believe they checked that all again yesterday, along with my thyroid function and infection markers. I hadn't ever been told what it was/went too. They did said before arriving they didn't expect it to be perfect yet as the infusion was only about a week ago. X

I personally wouldnt be driving till they can figure out what these episodes are

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this OP.

I'm only 23 weeks but am having something very similar - mostly just feeling very faint and dizzy but I have passed out on one occasion while out walking the dog and it has caused me to fall over several times. My absolute fear is that something will happen while I'm alone with DD1 and I have actually stopped driving for the time being.

Mine has been put down to low blood pressure as my iron levels are OK but I'm back at the doctors today so will see if anything has changed.

I hope you get some answers soon.

Id personally not drive again. HUGS that sounds really scary

mummabearxoxx · 29/11/2024 05:48

It will be avoided now, I actually decided to start my maternity leave early from what happened yesterday as my job involves a lot driving.
The first time was bad enough but yesterday has shaken me to the core and to not really have an explanation or a possible explanation just makes it even worse.
Think I may call Medicom today to try and get in touch with my midwife.
Never had these issues with my first pregnancy so this is all new to me x

The trouble is, It feels like they even seem like they want to figure that out, just feel disheartened and left to my own devices. It's scary and like I just have to wait for it to happen again! X

Oh I'm sorry this is happening to you too and you've actually passed out!
My only thought is that my BP has a temporary dip, maybe may lays in a position on a vein? I just can't think of any other explanation, doesn't help when I'm not given any! X

It definetely does sound like your iron levels. Mine have never been right since I had my 1st child. I had a post partum hemmorage and lost a lot of blood, they didn't give me a transfusion and failed to give me iron tablets so a few months later when I went to the doctor saying I feel absolutely terrible and exhausted constantly they checked my iron levels (which were dangerously low) and asked me how I was still standing? 🙃

They put me on iron tablets which I've been on and off for almost 7 years now. I still get those phases of lightheadedness where I feel like I'm going to pass out, extreme tiredness etc. You may need iron tablets prescribed, plus a vitamin c tablet (it helps your body absorb iron) and to lower your caffeine intake (as that can block the absorption of iron in the body) x
