Worst cold during pregnancy - any tips?

Recently found out we are expecting - the biggest hint was that this cold I have is one of the worst I have ever had - similar to one I had before when pregnant with my first baby.

It’s more so this cough that is a nightmare - I’ve had it about three weeks - although it’s definitely gotten worse the last week and a half. And the last couple of nights I’ve been lucky to get about 2 hours of sleep each night.

Ive tried lozenges, hot water and honey, stacking pillows, sleeping upright, Vicks vaporub and keeping fluids up - and though some seemed to help in the beginning nothing is really doing it now. Any recommendations would be extremely helpful - I know you tend to need to just get through it - but if there’s anything else I can try to make it a little bit easier, would be a massive help.
The coughing is making me sick after meals - which is just making me lose my appetite now in general.

The kids Calpol vapor plug is a game changer, I use it when I have a cold and I swear in just one or two nights I feel fine!

Is the cough on your chest? Some antibiotics are ok for pregnancy if you're feeling like it's bad enough for that!

Coughing until you're sick could be whooping cough? Have you seen your GP?

I had terrible colds with two of mine - one in very early pregnancy, so it combined with morning sickness to make me feel like death warmed up for a few weeks. The second was second trimester and wasn't fun either. No advice really, just sympathy. I'm guessing you know to avoid decongestants like lemsip? They can be dangerous for the baby. God I wanted a lemsip!!! Hope you feel better soon x

No I haven’t yet. When I went the last time I was pregnant (which I think I had the cold/cough even worse then) - they were reluctant to give anything for it - so I just assumed would be in the same boat again this time.

Oh I’ll need to look into getting that, thank you very much.

Yes, very chesty cough, I’m going to try and hold tight until the weekend and if there’s no improvement at all will try my GP for antibiotics - they were extremely reluctant to give me antibiotics last time when pregnant with this awful cough, so I assume it’ll be much the same but always worth a try. Thank you!

Thank you lovely, yeah these colds really do not mess around, feel like a zombie these last few days - absolutely no energy whatsoever, feel so weak and even though I feel I had the cold worse for the first pregnancy - I would be able to rest then, but with a nearly one year old this time round - rest does not exist. 🤣 Hoping that the weekend will be a big help, as my partner will be off then, so I’ll hopefully get some much needed rest then - the weekend has never felt so far away though (even though it’s Thursday now) 🤦🏻‍♀️
