The fight for 2 scans...GP says "do you WANT to damage your baby?"!!!!

Long story short; women in this area generally have to go to another healthboard to deliver and have scans, etc.

Friend is 'booked in' to a health board which offers the recommended 2 scans, but the local GP is refusing to refer her...

She will only refer for 16wk scan. When questioned, the GP actually responded by telling her there is evidence that scanning can be dangerous and did she actually want to damage her unborn baby

I am just flabbergasted!!!

What a load of s**t. In Northern Ireland where I live, we routinely get two scans - one at 12 wks, one at 20. My ds had IUGR and was scanned very frequently to monitor growth (about twice a week from 20 wks). We used to joke he was the most photographed baby before he was even here. I was hospitalised for a month and took part in a university feotal development research project where in addition, I had scans every two wks for that. These sort of scare tactics used by gps (to save money) make me really angry. As if you don't have enough to worry about when you're pregnant!
