'High' HCG at 6 Weeks?

Hi everyone,

Just wanted some advice if anyone else has any experience please!

Today I am 6+3 and on Sunday, Monday and yesterday I experienced a very small amount of blood when wiping, I have also had very mild period pains for the last week to ten days so both symptoms made me want to check everything was ok!

I range the EPU yesterday and they asked me to attend today as they wanted to rule out an ectopic. Consultant told me that they can't see much on an ultrasound at this stage so we would skip that and she examined my cervix to find it was closed and she could see the bleeding had been coming from a small area of my cervix with nothing to worry about. She said that we would do a HCG test and call me with the results this evening just to double check everything was as good as it could be at this stage.

The nurse from the EPU has just rung to tell me that my HCG level is 8,900 and this is high so they want to get me in for a scan to ensure everything is as it should be. I'm a little confused because after a quick google it shows anything from 200 to 32,000 as normal for this stage so I don't understand how they consider my levels to be high?

The first available time they could offer me was tomorrow morning and unfortunately I am not able to make that so the next available was Saturday but now I am concerned that they think this is high! I am going to worry until Saturday.

For reference I have had 1 previous pregnancy which was plain sailing resulting in a 4 year old little boy and no other history so this is all new to me!

Twins?

I had to have some early tests at 6 weeks due to a scare and a couple of the HCPs mentioned they were surprised how high my hcg levels were for 6 weeks.
Had a totally normally singular pregnancy. No twins and nothing abnormal.
Like you saw from Google the normal range varies wildly.
Try not to worry. Best of luck with your pregnancy x

Hi OP, at 5 weeks 6 days my hcg was 24,000! One baby and perfectly healthy. I was scanned as they thought it was leftover hcg from a previous mmc but I knew it was a new pregnancy. He’s 20 months now and absolutely fine, though he measured big from 28 weeks and at the 12 week scan I was pushed forward 5 days.
best of luck
