Can you still conceive naturally with a lower than normal egg count?

I recently had an AMH test because on an ultrasound in January the lady saw low follicle count for my age (I’m nearly 26!). I came off the pill and did an AMH test in June with my local private GP.

I have an AMH of 10.4. Although this is officially in the ‘normal’ range it’s actually in the 5th percentile and on the lower scale. My gynaecologist that I had a appt with yesterday saw the results and said that he’d expect a woman of my age to have over 20!! he did another test yesterday as the previous one was in June but the local GP didn’t say much other than it’s in the ‘normal’ range.

Sorry to sound dramatic, but I am completely heartbroken!! I’ve always been paranoid about fertility just because my cycle is 26 days which seemed irrational but I think I was right to be worried

I had always planned of getting married, buying a house and THEN having children. I actually went to see this gynaecologist because I keep getting stinging in my genital area after sex in the last week before my period every month for the last 2 years so I was worried this could be menopause.

now my AMH count is low maybe I am peri menopausal! I’m seeing him again next week but suppose the repeat AMH test is even lower since June (I don’t know how fast they drop)… it would be advisable to just try for a baby now wouldn’t it or egg freeze??

I had a really mature convo with my partner last night and he reassured me not to panic. He said at least there are eggs there and he said if it means trying for a baby then so be it! He knows that getting married is important for me so I think if it’s bad then we can expect an engagement and a very low key wedding!

i just feel so overwhelmed by this news because everyone kinda tells you it’s normal to not have kids before you’re 30!

in my perfect world I would’ve got married at 28, bought a house and then have children but I don’t think time is on my side at all.

has anyone out there had a lower than normal AMH count and conceived naturally?? Because never mind buying a house, we might have to put the funds to egg freezing / IVF.

thanks so much

Sorry you're going through this OP.

In answer to your question, yes I have but mine is age related. My egg count is significantly lower because I am 41 and was experiencing peri menopause symptoms but I conceived naturally and am now almost 23 weeks pregnant

Please don't lose faith.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! That’s wonderful news!

I’ll try not to lose faith - googling stuff doesn’t help either. I suppose I just have to wait to see what the doc says the next plan of action is but he genuinely did seem concerned that my egg count was so low for a 26 yr old.
