I'm 23 weeks tomorrow and since around 18 weeks my blood pressure has been marked as elevated. It sits between 130/135 and 80/85. They also keep finding traces of protein in my urine, hasn't been constant but been flagged up 3/4 times now. Went to see the midwife on a quick kinda emergency appointment as I've been having awful headaches. Pretty much everyday that paracetamol is just not cutting through. She said that blood pressure is still elevated was 133/78 today and had traces of urine again. She suggested to speak to the GP about headaches and get something stronger for them and as blood pressure is only borderline and it's only traces she'll revist it next week when I have a proper full length antenatal appointment and if it's the same she'll send me to the hospital. I just don't know whether to trust that judgement because she is a midwife of course or to speak to the hospital today? Just feels a bit like is this really okay to leave for another week? Thank you xo

I would speak to the maternity unit triage and see what they say, I had constant headaches in my last pregancy at one point that wouldn't shift and triage wanted to see me and did a load of checks and all was fine. Headaches cleared then a few days/weeks later.

I'd just call the maternity advice line, even if just for some reassurance!

Just keep on at them.

I had this from about 28 weeks onwards. On/off traces of protein in my urine, high BP but i'd have to sit for an hour then they'd check again and it would normally come down a bit. Headaches.

Around 33 weeks, my feet, hands and face started to swell. 35ish weeks I was in A&E with crazy visual disturbances, the trace protein in my urine started to creep up to ++/+++/++++. I was back and forwards being checked but tbh, it was covid times and i think i was fobbed off a bit.

Finally at 37 weeks my high BP refused to come down one day and I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and admitted to hospital there and then.

So about 9 weeks from initial symptoms to diagnosis

Thanks all! I have come up, I didn't feel the most reassured from midwifes advice so think if anything a second opinion is no harm!

It’s good that you are going for a second opinion. It could be nothing but they can be indicators of early signs of preeclampsia. I only say that because I had them starting at 30 weeks in my last pregnancy, with bp medication managed to reach 35 weeks. Although my initial bp had to go above 140/90 before it counted as high for my midwife and hospital.

The hospital will hopefully keep an eye on you though. Hopefully it is nothing but it’s definitely worth checking and let the doctors/midwives decide.

Thank-you! Went and got checked. Blood pressure had come down a bit, but still was showing traces in urine. That's been sent off, they are trialing me on Asprin to see if that could help keep it at a better level and been given some safer stronger painkillers for any headaches I may get. Listened to baby's heartbeat and that was all good. Feeling although tired from a long day a bit more reassured.
