Peppermint oil for mice repelling pregnant

Hello,

I’m aware I might be being a bit mad here and should calm down but always nice when someone tells you that.

We discovered mouse droppings in a couple kitchen cupboards and utility room. We live behind woods and our kitchen is old and has many random holes and things so not surprised. My husband cleaned up, I seconded that clean to be sure and once I’d got over that panic I decided to use steel wool and peppermint oil to stop them coming back

I put drops of peppermint essential oil on kitchen roll and wrapped with the steel wool plugged the holes. These were shut in kitchen cupboards, I went and watched tv then went to bed upstairs. My kitchen/downstairs does smell like mint but I’ve started to worry about the peppermint oil I might have inhaled although logically I’m sure that’s pretty minimal. Anything to worry about? Such mixed opinions on peppermint oil but I also see some people sniff it a lot for morning sickness.

Thanks for reassurance for an overly anxious FTM.

ah bless you, OP. I really don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm not exactly medically trained but like you, I've googled and can't see anything that's ringing alarm bells. Some medical sites say using peppermint oil during pregnancy can help combat nausea and headaches (it says you can put a couple of drops on a cotton ball) so just having it wafting around your kitchen should be fine. I'd be more worried about the mice!

(but don't worry about them either! Just get your DH to deal with it all, if poss)

Peppermint oil won't keep the mice away, you need to deal with them properly.

As @limepip says the smell wafting about won't do you any harm.

yep, i'd get some professionals in to deal with the mice if you can

Believe me, panic about mice also occurred! It seems to just be one that’s ventured inside but traps are down and holes are filled (we seem to have plenty holes in our old kitchen cupboards) and so far no evidence of them getting inside again and not caught any so far! Thanks all

Why would peppermint oil stop them?
