Had an early reassurance scan at what I thought I was 8 weeks and they said I was 5 weeks…. They saw the sac and yolk sac but nothing else. What’s the chances of this changing in a week or two or am I kidding myself

I think it depends if there is any possibility you could have got your dates wrong? I have heard a few stories of them measuring behind a week, and catching up, 3 weeks unfortunately does not sound promising, but if there is a possibility you could be a couple of weeks wrong in your dates then perhaps there is a chance?

As pp said, it depends if you could have your dates wrong.

If ivf or tracking ovulation etc then it's not looking good unfortunately as you would know the exact dates and 3 weeks difference is huge at that stage.

If just going by LMP and/or you have irregular or long cycles, or you've recently come off birth control or had a pregnancy loss which could have knocked your cycle off etc, then you can't be sure of dates and there is a chance all is OK.

I had my first scan when LMP said I was 8+2 but I was actually only 6+1. My cycles are long and irregular though so I knew I would have ovulated late even though i wasn't physically tracking. I'm now 22+3'

A few years ago I had a scan at 9 weeks and it was only measuring 6 weeks. It was a missed miscarriage in my case. I knew because I knew when I last dtd and got the positive test. It wasn’t possible to be three weeks behind for me. I had it confirmed at the epu though after.

If that is a private scan, contact your epu so they can scan you again, and offer support if it’s needed.

Do you know when you had a positive test? Is there a chance it can be 2-3 weeks behind?

Just to add positivity to my story three months after that I then conceived my son, and I’m pregnant again now and past the first trimester.

Say you have an average cycle and got a very, very early BFP at 7dpo, that would have made you 3 weeks pregnant (absolute minimum) at the time of your BFP.

If that's the case then you would be 6+4 today at the very least and you'd expect to see an embryo and heartbeat by then.

I'm so sorry OP but I think you need to prepare yourself for the worst. I hope I'm wrong x

I had my dates wrong by 2.5 weeks and this happened to me. First scan I thought I was 6 weeks but was actually 3w4 and it was pregnancy of unknown location.

Second scan at what I thought was 8w1 was just a yolk sac measuring 5w6..they said they'd like to atleast see a fetal pole by then but couldn't so said to prepare for it to not be viable pregnancy

Then at what I thought was 8w4 baby measured 6w4 and his little heartbeat was there

Now 26+2 so it was okay for me..I suppose it depends if you could've got your dates wrong or not?
