I am pregnant and my books and midwifes say I need to avoid watching anything high stress or with too much conflict. Every thread I see about what to watch while pregnant recomends pregnancy movies. I dont want to watch pregnancy movies actually because they all show women screaming dramatically in pain on their backs when they give birth - Not the goal.

Does anyone have any low stress, comforting, nice films that don't have death or babies getting lost or taken away?

I have already binged: The good place, The Man on the Inside, IT Crowd, Friends, Schitts creek, & the office.

I tried all creatures great and small, but it felt too formulaic in the end and I lost interest. Maybe movies would be better? Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Parks and Recreation is good

OptimisticRealist2024 · 26/11/2024 12:19

Parks and Recreation, Back to Life, Ghosts, Derry Girls, The Durrells, Nobody Wants This, GLOW (from memory no children in this and just quite an easy watch), Ted Lasso, Detectorists. Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse's Gone Fishing is easily the most chill thing I've ever watched. I don't think I'm their target demographic, but they just go somewhere nice, catch and release some fish, tell some jokes and go home. Physically stops my brain from worrying about literally anything.

We've just started watching 'A Man on the Inside' on Netflix which is by the same people that made The Good Place, and also features Ted Danson. It's about a man who goes into a retirement home undercover to investigate a crime. It's very easy watching and lighthearted.

Waitingfordoggo · 26/11/2024 15:03

Oh gosh sorry- seen that you've already watched that! 🙄

Waitingfordoggo · 26/11/2024 15:05

If you can find Shrinking- that is excellent. It was on Apple TV when we watched it but not sure if it still is or now somewhere else too.

I’m watching Rivals right now and it’s light and great fun. No violence or death or birth/babies. Disney+

how about Bake Off, Glow Up etc?

Superstore is good, easy entertainment

I should have read this thread earlier and I could have avided watching lots of body Horrors and gore movies (my husband's favoriten genre :) )

I am addicted to House MD atm and watch the call the midwife for the medical and historical content, but it is a bit cheesy for me. I think they are relaxing enough.

These are great! I particularly like the idea of the gone fishing series... weirdly..

Just popping back to suggest Emily in Paris if you haven’t seen it already! Pure fluff.

Also caveat my earlier recommendation of Rivals- I have since watched more and it does have a rape scene.

Orlahoping · 27/11/2024 22:39

I have been watching a lot of Taskmaster, bake off, the Miriam Margolyes and Alan Cumming Scotland travel show, MasterChef...seems travel and food gets my oxytocin up!

Dinosaurus86 · 27/11/2024 23:11

Yes Ghosts! Obviously does contain death but very light heartedly. When I was having a very very difficult pregnancy, this was literally the only thing I found I could tolerate and actually sit and watch, rather than sitting in a pool of despair.

APurpleSquirrel · 27/11/2024 23:15

The BBC version of Pride & Prejudice.
What about old musicals? Singin in the Rain, Calamity Jane, On the Town, An American in Paris etc?

My go to pregnancy/maternity shows are:

Brooklyn 99 (same writer as The Good Place, another favourite of mine!)
Community
Gilmore Girls
Derry Girls
Motherland
MasterChef
Taskmaster

@GeorgiePeachie It's like having a warm bath for my brain. 😊 Every now and then they get a guest on. It sounds so dull but is just very, very wholesome. Also doesn't matter if you end up dozing off halfway through. 😂

(It does make me yearn to be on a sunny riverbank with a good picnic, loads of cider and a good book, though!)
