11 weeks bleeding/cramping

i’m 11 weeks and have had some bleeding and cramping this evening.
currently waiting a 111 call back because the nhs website said to call GP/midwife but obviously not an option this late at night.
does anyone know what to expect?
its not severe so wondering if they will tell me to wait until the morning… trying to work out whether to wake my mum up and ask her to come and look after our toddler.

Hi,

I'm sorry that you've got this worry.

My experience of bleeding in the earlier part of pregnancy was waiting to be seen as our EPU is not open overnight. On one occasion had to wait a few days and on another got seen the same day. I did not have any other worrying symptoms in terms of my own health which may have contributed. From my experience it was not treated like an 'emergency' despite it feeling like one while going through it.

Wishing you all the best.

As a mum/Gran, I'd have wanted to be woke up to support.

That’s good to hear, I did actually call her earlier in the evening to tell her what was happening, so she might still be awake anyway but I did tell her not to wait up

As a Gran (sorry to repeat), she will probs either still be awake or fitfully sleeping in mum concern mode. I hope all is well for you

I'm sorry OP, always a worrying time. My experience of bleeding in early pregnancy was that I went in to see my GP that morning who referred me to A&E (because it was a referral I was seen quickly straight by gynae) and then they arranged an EPU scan for a couple of days later.

Once I was in the EPU system they dealt with me quickly and they kept in touch. The GP and consultant in A&E both examined me and checked my cervix was closed.

The experience was awful emotionally but everyone involved was brilliant (this was royal Berks if anyone local is reading!)

Sending you my best wishes, I know how worrying it is

Thank you for your message. It seems like that's the relatively standard procedure, which is good, I was more worried they'd want me to just wait and see, especially since my dating scan is supposed to be next week.
111 never rang me back but my GP referred me this morning and the EPU have booked me for a scan tomorrow so that's all been quite quick and at least I'll know tomorrow either way.

How stressful for you. I had really heavy bleeding at 13 weeks with my son. I was sure I had lost him, but it turns out I had a subchroionic haematoma.

all was fine in the end. Hope all goes well tomorrow.

I'm glad it was all okay for you, it must have been scary.
I'm trying to stay hopeful for now but anticipating another sleepless night.

Good luck tomorrow

I had a similar experience at 10 weeks. Light bleeding started in the evening. I phoned out of hours who said monitor bleeding and go to a and E if it got heavy and phone the epu in the morning. Phoned the epu and booked a scan for the following morning. The bleeding had stopped overnight but in the afternoon it went very heavy with clots- I had to sit on the toilet it was so heavy. I went to a and E and was seen quickly and they tested my haemoglobin because of the blood loss and my HCG. The scan the following morning revealed I had unfortunately passed the pregnancy and in the 15 h since I had been in a and E my hcg halved.

The wait for the scan was hard on was 90% certain I had seen something pass so was prepared to hear the worst. They did an internal scan which i wasn't expecting.

I had my scan this morning and thankfully the baby is okay. Measuring a few days behind but they didn’t seem concerned by that.
I have a haematoma and presumably some exercise I did on Monday triggered the bleeding.
Thank you all for your messages & support over the last few stressful days.

Brilliant news! I'm so pleased for you

ICarriedTheWatermelon · 28/11/2024 15:16

So glad all is ok.

one thing I will advise is avoid heavy lifting. This tended to make my bleeding heavier. Most SCHs absorb by 20 weeks, and the bleeding stops.

Being a few days out is no biggie either. A sonographer once told me how they can be out + / - a week very easily in the first few months when trying to measure.

Thank you. That’s good to know.
Interesting that the measurements can be quite out!

I had a haematoma so the bleeding wasn’t specific to exercise but they did say that could make it worse. I bled for around a week but it wasn’t heavy at all after the initial 2 days. I haven’t bled since, the baby was fine at the 12 weeks scan but I haven’t had an appointment since. Hoping to hear the heartbeat at my 16 week midwife appointment as my next scan isn’t until the end of January.
hope everything is well for you.

Last Christmas i was 12 weeks pregnant and passing a lot of red blood including clots as big as my hand. I was absolutely convinced I had lost the baby. I had a scan on boxing day- could not believe my eyes when I saw baby wriggling away. He is 6 months old now. Lots of things cause bleeding, i really hope all will be well for you xx
