Ate cold pepperoni pizza

my family and I had pepperoni pizza (piping hot) the other night. We had left overs and stored it into a container and put it in the fridge. Without hesitation I ate a slice of cold pepperoni pizza from the fridge. Should I contact my doctor? Did I mess up and hurt the baby? I’m a mess.

I wouldn’t even think twice about it. Honestly, don’t worry. You will be fine. In my pregnancies I ate everything I shouldn’t have and I have two perfectly healthy kids. Enjoy your pregnancy and congratulations.

MissBattleaxe · 25/11/2024 00:42

I'm certain it will be absolutely fine. I can't think of any harm that chilled, pre cooked pizza can do!

PoissonOfTheChrist · 25/11/2024 00:51

Your child will come out shaped like a pizza now Sad

Don't worry OP. The food was fine, your baby will be fine.

Thelma2024 · 25/11/2024 00:52

Thank you for a good laugh. I needed that!

Thank you for the good giggles!

I'm glad your mind has been put to rest.

But what about it worried you??

But what about it worried you??

Since pepperoni is consider deli meat and it was cold and not heated up, I’m just worried about listeria infecting my baby. It’s my first child and I’m very nervous I’ll mess it up.

Have you heard of the book 'expecting better' by Emily Oster? In it she discusses her research on lots of recommendations regarding pregnancy, including the foods we are told to avoid. I found reading the book really helpfu, and for me, cold cuts were a low risk food i decided I was comfortable eating.

LittleTwiggy · 25/11/2024 03:06

OP you’re allowed to eat pepperoni on pizza because it’s cooked. Doesn’t matter if it’s hot or cold. It’s only cold cured meats (uncooked) that the NHS advise to be careful of.

Enjoy your pepperoni pizza!

sel2223 · 25/11/2024 07:04

Yum - I could just fancy that now!

It's only cured meats that warning is for, and last time I checked pizzas were cooked not cured.

Missmarymack2 · 25/11/2024 07:07

As you have said the pizza was piping hot the night before any bacteria would have been killed then. It’s uncooked things like Parma ham that should be avoided.

HoppingPavlova · 25/11/2024 07:09

But the pepperoni was cooked on the pizza ……

But it’s cooked meat. Listeria is killed by cooking meat.

No I haven’t! I’ll definitely be buying that book! Thank you!

The issue with cured meats is if they haven't been cooked. You cooked it so it's fine to eat now even if it has cooled down afterwards.

Justleaveitblankthen · 25/11/2024 08:02

We've been doing it for centuries 💐🇮🇹

It's a small risk. I still eat deli meat

Shiningout · 25/11/2024 08:05

Unless you ate the pizza raw and hadn't cooked it the night before you'll be fine, it's nothing to do with the meat being hot or cold op.

Nc546888 · 25/11/2024 12:38

You’ll be absolutely fine!!

I think there’s a lot of scare mongering over food and pregnancy in the U.K.

i Didn’t change anything I ate with either pregnancies. I fancied steak or sushi, I had it.

the Emily oster book mentioned is good
