Brown, mucus like bleeding 6 weeks pregnant

Hi, I am around 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant (based off of first day of last period) and this is my first pregnancy. Everything has been going fine but then on Friday night (2 days ago) I found some brown spotting in my pants and when I wiped there was some brown blood. The next day this carried on and I had some throughout the day - quite mucus like and brown coloured. This morning I had some almost pink like blood and then throughout the day it has been brown again, quite thick and mucus like at points. It seems the past couple of hours I haven’t had anything but I am really worried - this is my first pregnancy and I am quite an anxious person anyway so I am terrified.

I know nobody can tell me yes this is bad or don’t worry this is absolutely fine but I am just wondering if this is common? I am going to speak to my GP/midwife tomorrow but as it’s the weekend I am really struggling with not being able to speak to anyone today.

I would say the brown has varied from light pink at times to dark brown. Thanks for any help/advice/reassurance!

It is common and brown bleeding is not as worrying as it is older blood, fresh red blood is more concerning. It’s best to monitor it and see if it gets worse or stops, I’d also recommend calling your EPU for a scan as they should be able to see at heartbeat at 6 weeks. I honestly wouldn’t bother speaking to GP, just call your midwife or maternity triage. GPs don’t have a clue in my experience and often give out wrong/worrying info.

I’ve had this go a few different ways. First pregnancy I had brown bleeding on and off, then after a few weeks it went red and then I miscarried at 9 weeks. I did have an early scan at what should’ve been 7 weeks, there was a heartbeat but the size was only that of 5 weeks. This was a private scan and I wouldn’t trust a private place again, they gave me false hope saying it was all fine and my dates must be wrong even though I knew they couldn’t be.

I then had a successful pregnancy resulting in my first child - no bleeding in that one.

then this current pregnancy I’ve had bleeding on and off throughout - brown, sometimes red, mucus but also more watery. I am now 34 weeks and have been monitored several times and found to have cervical ectropian which is harmless for the baby but basically means my cervix bleeds if I ever do too much running about after my toddler, walking etc can also be triggered by sex. So it’s concerning each time and I do get it checked but I’m mostly just trying to take it easy to minimise the amount of times I have to go in to hospital.

so it could be a few different things, but it definitely doesn’t always mean bad news and I now know that with the current pregnancy I’m in!

one thing I did after my first miscarriage is take low dose aspirin, and I believe it really helped with my first child and this pregnancy.

good luck x

Usually if it is brown it is old blood. At this stage it could still be implantation bleeding. I had this and the doctors said if there was no cramping it's normal. From 7 weeks you can detect a heartbeat so you could book a scan. I'm in Northern Ireland and the eou wouldn't scan before I had my booking appointment so I paid for one. I needed to have the reassurance everything was OK.
