Did you know about the emergency coil if you got the morning after pill?

Hi all.
Ive fallen pregnant after taking the morning after pill (which delays ovulation). I bought this from the chemist. I didn’t know about the emergency coil at the time (which you can take 5 days after ovulation). Has anyone else been in this position and not knew about it at the time?
Just feeling abit silly x

I knew about it, we were taught about it at school during sex ed. However in my experience of having the coil every 5 years is that you'd struggle finding someone to fit in within the five days anyway. I've been on waiting lists every time for both removal and of putting in a new one.

I didn’t know about it and have the morning after pill twice. At the end of the day you didn’t know, it doesn’t matter if other people know. Wish you luck

Thank you! I definitely was not taught this at school x

Out of interest, how old are you? Wonder if it was just our sex ed teacher or if it was added to the curriculum etc.

Yes I knew

HolyMoly24 · 24/11/2024 12:16

Never heard of it in my life

I knew, but also question whether NHS waiting times could accommodate seeing someone to fit within the required timescale.

Never heard of it. Im early 30s but my sex ed was basically abstinence. Didnt even know how the morning after pill worked until uni.

Great system with 3 of my classmates having had babies or expecting before we left school. Clearly really worked.

I knew. And also that you can conceive (as in, the egg can be fertilised) with the coil in - so if you then get the coil removed (within the few next days), the embryo can then move down the Fallopian tube and implant as normal!
😬

Thanks ladies. I’m also early 30s

No I had never heard of the emergency coil either and I'm early 30's. But I was fully aware of the morning after pill only being effective if you haven't yet ovulated and was surprised how many women on here didn't know that 🤣
