Hi everyone,

my daughter has chicken pox and I’m 32 weeks pregnant, apparently I had it when I was younger. Do I need to do anything like contact my midwife or anything?? Is it harmful to baby??

I was 13 weeks pregnant when my son had it but the midwife wasn't concerned , they told me just to try and keep abit of distance but obviously that's impossible

On your booking bloods they check your immunity to chickenpox (ie if you've had it before.) So if you want to double check you are immune you can contact to confirm the blood result. Once you're immune you're absolutely fine and can forget about it 😊

If you're 100% sure you've had it then you don't need to do anything. If there's a chance you haven't then you must contact the hospital to check because they can give you medicine to protect the baby.

My son had it when I was about 18 weeks, spoke to the midwife who said it was fine as I have it as a child. It was all fine ☺️

So yes if you are not sure you've had it, contact your hcp promptly. If you are sure, then fine.

I'd never had it, got exposed, tested, had zero immunity, and had gamma globulin injections to protect me and the baby. This was a while ago. all fine.

If you had it as a child then you are probably immune.
