Is anybody really starting to struggle with work around the 30 week mark? I have crippling pelvic girdle pain and finding it so hard. Had a three hour meeting in work last week and could barely walk the next day. GP offered to sign me off work but was hoping to hold on until closer to the due date. Is anybody else nearly ready to finish up?

Yes me too- so tough isn’t it!!

TTCagain85 · 10/12/2024 08:31

Yes, starting to struggle! I always do just before holidays...now compounded by being 31 weeks.

Sorry if TMI....does anyone else feel they smell really pissy 😐 don't remember this with my first previous pregnancies. Obs my pelvic floor is under immense pressure...I wear tena panty liners by day but don't wear pants with pj's. My pj's stink, even aftwr washing with white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. I've also tried odor release detergent. I've thrown some pairs out 🤢

superj21 · 10/12/2024 08:54

@TTCagain85 I've not had any issues with this or any incontinence type stuff (touch wood) but it sounds crap 😫 I'd probs opt for wearing pants and liners in bed too though

UrbanSquirrel · 10/12/2024 12:05

@TTCagain85 Not TMI as I imagine several of us are in the same boat! Definitely a bit dribbly here, now and again - I tend to be fine if I'm sitting down but, when I stand up, gravity does its work with a vengeance and I have to hurtle to the loo. I went the full hog and bought some of the Tena lady liners (the ones that are the size of a small submarine) and tried one yesterday. Actually wasn't uncomfortable at all and, though it feels a bit excessive, I might wear them more often going forward - just in case the baby suddenly drops at some point and my bladder can't take it 😂

Agree that it's probably a good idea to wear pants and a liner in bed, if only to give yourself a bit of a break on the laundry front!

32+3 here and feel like I’ve got a bowling ball between my legs, and getting braxton hicks every time I walk more than about four metres! Struggling a bit with pelvic pain this time around too, although that is probably exacerbated by lugging around a toddler!

Anyone else getting pins and needles in their hands? It’s waking me up in the night!

autumnbake · 10/12/2024 13:04

Self employed and struggling to find the motivation too...although I've requested my maternity allowance/leave to start soonish so looking forward to being able to fully switch off my brain a bit.

@TTCagain85 I've had to resort to wearing panty liners due to the constant discharge/dribble. I went in to the antenatal ward for a check around 28w as the discharge was so much/wet i was worried it was my waters leaking (it wasn't). Was fed up of my PJ bottoms having to be washed so often so gave in to wearing liners all the time.😅

OrangeSlices998 · 10/12/2024 13:41

The irony that I went to triage for reduced movements on Sunday and I don’t think she’s stopped moving since! It’s so reassuring, I had an anterior placenta with my first and I remember really struggling to feel them so I’m trying to enjoy it, knowing it’s my last baby!

I keep getting braxton hicks everytime I walk, I don't remember this from last time! Could the hands be carpel tunnel? Seems quite common in pregnancy!

elb1504 · 10/12/2024 13:46

Also having to wear liners all the time, mostly due to having to have progesterone pessaries that seem to leave a right mess afterwards but also for all other fluids that seem to be happening!

retrievermum · 10/12/2024 13:48

@elb1504 I don’t either! Especially not this early on, I’m walking at a snails pace everywhere and my toddler is furious to be trapped in the pram for extra time because mummy can’t waddle fast enough 😂

I think it probably is carpal tunnel, I’ve got dodgy wrists anyway so I’ll get my splint back out for the foreseeable! The glamour of pregnancy!

Meltedchocolateteapot · 10/12/2024 15:19

Thanks a million for the advice re work, my PGP got a lot worse and I went back to the GP and was signed off work for the remainder of the pregnancy. I had a call with my manager and he was actually really nice about it and very understanding and fully supported me finishing up in work. I’d say I was definitely partially responsible for the workload being heaped on, I didn’t let him know how bad my situation was. Setting the out of office was the best feeling ever! Thanks again for the help :)

UrbanSquirrel · 10/12/2024 16:54

@Meltedchocolateteapot So glad your manager turned out to be supportive and you now get to rest - though not 'glad', as such, that your pain has got worse. At least now you can rest and let your body set the pace. Hope the pain eases a little so you aren't too uncomfortable 🤗 x

I've been struggling with carpal tunnel this pregnancy, I wake up every morning with tingly hands, which did fade after around half an hour but it's now lasting nearly all day. Do you also struggle to close your hand into a fist after waking? It's quite common apparently. I feel it worse when driving, too.

retrievermum · 10/12/2024 20:13

@Lunalovegod yes! Mine normally dies down after about an hour but I’m very aware I’ve got 8ish weeks left and it will likely only get worse!

I didn’t have it last time, so I was very alarmed when it started happening!

retrievermum · 10/12/2024 20:15

Is anyone planning on starting raspberry leaf tea etc?

I drank it from 32 weeks in my last pregnancy (and have been drinking it this week too), and ate 6 dates a day from 37 weeks (I HATE dates!) and they did…absolutely nothing 😂 still trying again this time though, you never know!

ThisLimeDeer · 10/12/2024 20:17

Thank you @sohomum18 and @retrievermum for responding to my massive rant yesterday! I’ve had a call from the hospital and will have the anti-D next Tuesday, another consultant appointment on 23rd December and midwife on 24th. It’s getting busy with appointments but I’m grateful for the frequent monitoring to be honest.

@TTCagain85 - Yes I do smell pissy 😭. I’ve noticed it in the second trimester but I thought it was just me and felt very self conscious about it 😭. I also on occasion sneeze and wee myself a little, even if I’ve just had a wee!!! I feel horrible when my other half puts a load of washing on but at the same time I don’t want to say ‘please don’t do it as my knickers smell of wee’ 😭 so I say nothing and he can probably smell it and is also saying nothing 😭.

TTCagain85 · 10/12/2024 20:28

Thanks for the solidarity even if it is about pissy knickers 🤣 gave in to a night time panty liner.

So, had my consultant today and got my c-section date! 6th Feb. Baby is another chunky one, 4.5lbs at 31 weeks! Any other confirmed dates?

Redapple21 · 10/12/2024 21:23

@TTCagain85 yes definitely pissy over here too and have also been wearing the Always pads for pissy knickers. They definitely help and on the days I forget to wear one I feel very self conscious!

@retrievermum I did the raspberry leaf tea and dates last time too, and absolutely nothing! Had to be induced a week over 😂 opting for c section this time and terrified il go into labour before 39 weeks so il be avoiding them this time haha x

It’s very hard to know what impacts the individual vs across a population.

Both pregnancies I drank raspberry leaf tea religiously from 32w & ate 3 medjool dates a day from 36w, I laboured both times from a sweep and had two very quick waterbirths. Was it the dates? The tea? Fuck all to do with either and would have happened anyway? I’m not willing to not try and find out 😂 I like the taste of raspberry leaf tea and with some peanut butter enjoyed the dates so I’ll do it again!

QuantumPanic · 11/12/2024 07:11

I received a hit (headbutt? I can't tell at all.) to the cervix yesterday that caused a split second of absolute agony. I'd previously been pretty open to trying a 'natural' labour, but if the pain is anything like that, then I'm going to be begging for pain relief straight away. Yikes.

Reflux means I've started drinking Gaviscon. The berry one is a functional after dinner treat.

Congratulations to everyone who has a c section date! The finish line is in sight. 💚

superj21 · 11/12/2024 08:44

@QuantumPanic I just got a prescription for omeprazole the other week and it is a game changer! I had awful heartburn / indigestion/ reflux to the point where I was waking up in the night to swig gaviscon. I can now eat and drink anything without the slightest bit of reflux!

QuantumPanic · 11/12/2024 10:06

@superj21 That sounds dreadful - glad you've got it sorted! Mine's not so bad - a tablespoon of Gaviscon or about five Rennies normally sort me out.

OrangeSlices998 · 11/12/2024 10:15

@superj21 Omeprazole is a life changer! I wish I hadn’t suffered so long without it, Gaviscon did naff all!

superj21 · 11/12/2024 10:18

Ah that's good @QuantumPanic, even with Gaviscon and antacids it was barely taking the edge off.

@OrangeSlices998 isn't it! Would recommend to anyone 😅 I was miserable before starting it!

retrievermum · 11/12/2024 11:13

Also a massive fan of omeprazole! I had it really badly with DD (and she had a full head of hair, apparently that’s one of the only old wives tales that is actually based on truth!) and suffered for ages before getting it, and it immediately changed my life! This time hasn’t been so bad but the second I felt any acid reflux I was straight on to an econsult requesting more, not taking any chances!
