Just creating this so that we have somewhere to continue when Thread 3 fills up. If you're due to have a baby in February 2025 (or late January or early March, as we have a wide spread!), come join us for support, advice and (at present) some really useful Black Friday recommendations! Big welcoming hugs to all the usual suspects coming over from Thread 3 🤗

On the ball as always @UrbanSquirrel 😊!

Mamma3456 · 23/11/2024 04:14

Thanks!

Reflecting on the last post on LOTR, I think DH is last minute panicking about our lives changing with a new baby. We have a primary school child already and a baby will obviously be a bit limiting on where and how long we can go out for, especially in the winter. Normally he's one for pottering around at home but now he's counting the weekends we have left and trying to book us for days out!

I do think in the middle of winter, post cesarean and with a new baby I'll also just want to be at home, so I've been trying to get out as much as I can, while I can!

Finally I found that there's plenty of time during feeding baby to watch extended versions of films, albeit interrupted. 😅 It's harder now with an older child and debating whether to show them Bilbo's birthday party scene and if they are old enough to watch scenes with orcs. (Definitely not.)

Redapple21 · 23/11/2024 07:14

Hi all, great catch up on all the deals! We have most things from baby 1 but do still need some bits so it's good to see all the deals!

We didn't use a monitor until around 4 months when I did start putting ds in his room for naps as I found he needed the dark. We still use it now and he's over 2! It's just habit really, will turn it off soon and keep for new baby. Ours is a v tech one which was around £100 from John Lewis and has been good for us, and allows you to view the camera on the app too, but there are definitely cheaper options out there.

To ladies who also mentioned they were suffering from pelvic pain, my midwife referred me to a group physio session and it has actually helped. The physio was lovely and showed us some yoga stretches, I was dubious but I have definitely been in less pain since, trying to find time to keep them up!

Cheeseandcrackers123 · 23/11/2024 07:26

Accept I’m in the anxious mum camp but we still use a monitor now with our 3 year old(!) (albeit mainly as have house with old thick walls so otherwise can’t hear him calling or getting up to mischief!) I’ve bought the babysense maxview monitor with split screen and really like it. Also we really rated the owlet with our first (albeit accept that this is as he had spent 4 weeks in NICU so was freaked out about going from all that monitoring to none). One false alarm in whole time we had it though and generally great for keeping an eye / seeing from heart rate when getting a temperature etc - think someone said but that is really reduced on Amazon at moment.

By the way @UrbanSquirrel think you’re trying to wish time away - think we are the Feb 2025 not Feb 2024 lot in title of this thread 😊

UrbanSquirrel · 23/11/2024 07:27

@Cheeseandcrackers123 Oh lord you're right. I'm a muppet. This is why sleep deprivation is a Bad Thing 🤣 Will get that updated! Many thanks for being so alert so early in the morning!

Called having a 3 year old / fretting whether the baby is moving as much as usual/it should be 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

UrbanSquirrel · 23/11/2024 07:35

@Cheeseandcrackers123 Have now reported the thread to the Mumsnet admins in hope they can update the title.

It was me that flagged the Owlet and I'm really glad it worked for you; that's exactly the kind of thing I hoped to hear ☺️. I noticed that the discount is offered on their own website as well as Amazon, if that makes a difference to anyone. Ours arrived yesterday, so I'm going to try and connect it to the WiFi later on and just make sure it all works, as some reviews suggest that this isn't entirely straightforward.

Many thanks for the baby monitor rec as well. Still shilly-shallying about which one to go for (to 'smart' or not to 'smart' essentially... there were some good arguments against relying on WiFi, on the Facebook group, if I remember correctly).

OP posts:
Cheeseandcrackers123 · 23/11/2024 09:21

Yeah I’m in the non wifi camp a) because don’t have to rely on your WiFi in your house b) so much easier to just move and plug in elsewhere if going away / staying with others and c) don’t have it on your phone which personally I find is a good dividing line ie on one hand you can be looking whilst on phone but also you can put it down and forget about it until it makes a noise.

Only disadvantage is when eventually go out and leave your baby with someone else you can’t spy on baby from afar!

UrbanSquirrel · 23/11/2024 09:31

Huzzah! The lovely admin team have saved my blushes and edited the title 👏🏻

elb1504 · 23/11/2024 09:46

I still have the monitor on for my 4 year old, he doesn't get out of bed on his own and calls for us and can't hear if we're downstairs etc... will probably stop using it when baby 2 needs it.

We have a non wifi one as we find it easier to take places with us and easy to setup not needing to try and change wifi settings etc...

Kumquat89 · 23/11/2024 10:45

Got a bit confused with the change of thread. Sorry @UrbanSquirrel 😊
reposting the same here :

Don’t let me distract you from your fascinating Black Friday conversations but as a side discussion:
RSV vaccines. They are new here in France and I think it’s the same in the UK. You are probably offered it there too? Is everyone taking it? I’ll be taking it but just wanted to check what everyone thinks about this. Is it the case there too that if you don’t take it baby takes an antibody jab instead? Anyway for those taking the vaccine it’s after 32 weeks so coming up soon.

retrievermum · 23/11/2024 12:16

@Kumquat89 I’m taking it (it’s after 28 weeks in the UK so mine is booked for Monday, although I’ll be 30+2 by then!); it seems to have been well researched and widely used in other places before coming over here, and my brothers daughter had RSV when she was tiny and it was so scary for all of us, so I’m hoping to reduce the risk as much as possible :)

UrbanSquirrel · 23/11/2024 12:24

@Kumquat89 I've already had my RSV - along with everything else they've offered 😉 I did a lot of reading about it beforehand and, in my view, it really seems worthwhile as RSV can be so dangerous for small babies. Obviously a very personal choice, but I feel it's just an additional level of protection - for me and the baby!

elb1504 · 23/11/2024 15:10

@Kumquat89 I've had my RSV vaccine already too, in my opinion worth while. My 6 week old nephew has been in hospital in the last few weeks with RSV and it can be dangerous to babies so I'm happy to be protected.

OrangeSlices998 · 23/11/2024 17:34

Yes I’ll be having it (didn’t realise there was a new thread so I also posted on the old one!) we recently had RSV and it was genuinely hideous.

CarrotySnack · 23/11/2024 19:47

I'll be getting the RSV at my next appointment, personally. Anyone getting it might be glad to hear that it's very effective and in the big study there were actually more adverse events in the placebo group than in the group that got the shot (expert summary I found, including link to the study, is here https://x.com/michaelmina_lab/status/1723906333139710437).

Sorry I'm terrible at googling everything - it's an instinct I'd like to break once baby is here but which will almost certainly just get worse!😬

Kumquat89 · 23/11/2024 22:24

Glad to read everyone’s response. 👍 seems like you are on top of it. @CarrotySnack i get it. I do it too and most of the time it’s not very helpful/ makes me more anxious.

I was a midwife before my daughter was born and I googled the most bat shit things! I seem to remember one day googling ‘is my newborn broken’

Kumquat89 · 24/11/2024 20:35

@apple67cherry wow! Those pictures are amazing! He looks like a full term baby. Haven’t realised they already look like this. I was expecting them more skinny at this stage. 😅 thanks for sharing.

BusyTiger · 24/11/2024 20:39

We have got our car seat but it's one that stays attached to the base so we can't carry it around. We have bassinet for the pram so we're fine with that but it's just occurred to me, how are we going to take her out of the hospital when I give birth?! Carrying her out in our arms sounds a bit scary but bringing the pram in feels like it might be a bit much and I can't think of what other options we have! Has anyone had this issue before, what did you do?!

UrbanSquirrel · 24/11/2024 20:40

@apple67cherry Oh what a gorgeous little munchkin! Look at the nose and mouth in that last pic 🤩 It's amazing, as @Kumquat89 says, how they're all already looking like full-term babies, and proper individual little people. Thanks so much for sharing!

OP posts:
UrbanSquirrel · 24/11/2024 20:44

@BusyTiger I would bring the pram in. Not been through this before, but my midwife said that one of them would come out with us to the car to make sure everything's OK, so I'm sure they're used to peoples using prams and then 'decanting' the baby in the car park. It'll probably help to have the storage space under the pram too, for all your bags! 😉
