Hi everyone I am due my 4th baby in around 7 weeks , had a consultation appointment yesterday I have gestation diabetes again with this wee one and also been on blood thinners from 28 weeks , everything is going well with baby I’m on metaformin for diabetes which is working well and not being seen again till 36 weeks

basically during my scan the consultant spoke to me about my previous 3rd c section which went so well I didn’t have adhesions and was told everything was well and wasent told not to try again but she said from my previous notes my uterine wall has thinned which she says is very common with repeat c section so as this is my 4th she was giving me the advice regarding avoiding rupture etc and to consider sterilising where they will remove my tubes , this will be mine and my husband’s 2nd baby I know I’m blessed il have 4 but for this to be my last pregnancy I’m sure sure I’m ready to call quits yet, I did say to myself I’d like my last one at 40 ,im 38 now but I am aware of risks etc with a 5th

what’s everyone’s thoughts any had 5 c sections and doing well just want all the advice I can get before I make such a big decision

I had 4csections, and was sterilized during the last one. But I had zero intentions of having a fifth child and found the not having to worry about contraception liberating. It was ten years ago and I have zero regrets.

I’d definitely have it done.

Regarding considering a 5th pregnancy, I would think of the sterilisation as prioritising your 3 existing kids and this one about to be born.

although the risks vary from person to person, I think it would be safer to have the sterilisation and also completely remove the need for any contraception. You could draw a clear line under the baby stage and start your next chapter.

I am early pregnant and would need to have a 4th c section. I’m so worried about the risks of a 4th, I am considering termination. If I do go ahead, I will definitely get sterilised during the c section. Having said that, there are people that have 5, but it’s uncommon and the risks are higher.

You might want to do some research on placenta increta and percreta which are life threatening placental complications that increase in risk with multiple c sections. I personally know a woman who very nearly died from it.

At least armed with that knowledge you can then make an informed decision as to whether you want to risk a 5th section.
