9 weeks pregnant & Hematoma

Hello,

I am currently 9 weeks pregnant and experiencing my 7th day of blood loss. It began as a brown mucus and has now progressed to a medium flow.

My 7 week scan showed a Hematoma sizing at 2.4cm. This is the first sign of any blood loss. The GP has referred me to the early pregnancy unit but I can't receive a scan until another 4 days.

Has anyone else experience this and what kind of consistency was the loss? It's hard not to think the worse, especially when they're so many scary online stories. I am trying to remain positivity but I am also experiencing mild cramps and lower back pain.

I an 33 and this is my second pregnancy, praying for a miracle. Any advice on how to survive without the anxiety of a miscarriage would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance x

Hi lovely,

I had a hematoma this pregnancy (second pregnancy also) and it was found at an early scan at EPU due to bleeding around 5 weeks. I thought I was miscarrying. Turns out it was a SCH. Had lots of early scans in between that and my 12 week scan - some private and two NHS because I was so nervous about miscarrying, like you.

In terms of consistency there were times it was just spotting or there when I wiped but it was there the majority of the time. When I was about 9 weeks pregnant, we were on holiday and I had bright red heavy bleeding and even passed a clot that I didn’t look at but heard it ‘plop’ into the toilet. Was convinced I had lost baby. Had a scan away and at home and baby was fine - all the time.

By the time I had my 12 week scan, the hematoma had just absorbed back into my body. ❤️

it’s so hard because you feel like everyday you can’t get attached - I wouldn’t even acknowledge I was actually pregnant until after my 10 week NHS scan - when I had passed a clot and was still ‘miraculously’ pregnant but please remember they are so so common.

two of my closest friends had them in early pregnancy and carried to full term now. I’m nearly 25 weeks and all seems well.

im going to find my thread from summer and link it below.

try not to give yourself a hard time OP. Odds are everything will be okay.

Hi I’m also 9 weeks today and dealing with a hematoma in my second pregnancy. I had a scan at 7 weeks (ivf pregnancy) and then had a massive red bleed with contractions the next day- was sure I was losing the pregnancy but saw heartbeat and hematoma on a scan in a&e. I had another almost painless red bleed for a few hours a week later, but my follow up scan this week showed baby still growing. Hematoma is 4x2x1 they said in this scan. I was told that I will likely experience more bleeding and even should expect clots, and that doesn’t necessarily mean the pregnancy has ended it’s just the blood coming away.

I took a bit of time off work after the first bleed on the advice of a&e but midwives and ivf clinic say I can get on with normal life. It is so hard not to be anxious about it suddenly coming out and disrupting the pregnancy! Doctor did tell me this week that “80% of pregnancies with a hematoma are fine” which felt like a lower number than I’d like … but I guess the longer we keep going the safer it is? 😕

Praying both of ours get absorbed soon and we can get on without being so stressed!

I had a hematoma at 9weeks, and lot of woman had on mumsnet with positive outcome.

However, I have no idea how to get rid of anxiety as I was very anxious up to the 20 week scan and only to turn moderately anxious for the rest (32 weeks currently).

Maybe try to distract yourself as much as you can. I hope everything goes well for you!

Thank you all soo much, this was really good for me to hear.

I'm going to try and see if I can get in EPU any earlier or pay to go private again.

Thank you all again x

Hello,
I just thought that I would reply to you all on here as you were so supportive.

Unfortunately, after spending the day in hospital it was confirmed I was miscarrying. I think as mums we know when something isn't right, so going to hospital was the right thing to do for me, despite thinking it was the Hematoma.

Thank you all again x
