Pregnant after taking the morning after pill

Hi
I’ve found myself pregnant having taken the morning after pill after the condom failed. We did want another child but didn’t plan on it being this soon. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you tell others?
Thank you! X

Hi, this situation happened to me exactly - I’m 5 weeks and found out last week. I hope you’re ok, it’s a lot to get your head around! We have a 15 month old and weren’t planning another pregnancy for another year or so. We won’t announce until we’ve had a scan but all being well we’ll just say it was a happy accident I think, our friends and family know we weren’t ready and I think it’s helpful to be honest.

Thank you for replying, I hope you’re ok too!?Yes it is best to be honest. Will you just tell the docs/midwife the same too? Xx

Happened to me with my 9 year old DS. Other than my now ex husband and my mum no one else knows it wasn't planned, we just announced it as "normal". I wouldn't be without DS now.

I got pregnant even though I had taken the MAP. Unfortunately I think it was the cause of my ectopic pregnancy.

The map works by stopping ovulation if you are in the middle of your cycle when most in need to the map it is less effective as you could have ovulate the day of the sex in which case the delay to ovulation will be unhelpful as you have already ovulated. If you are in the middle of your cycle the coil works better as it also can stop implanting of any fertilised egg. There might be one of the pills that does this but I believe the default map does not

There's no need to go through the ins and the outs with people about the conception. You are having a baby and feel happy about it is more than enough. For what it's worth there are more unplanned children out there than you would imagine. I'm 1 of 3 and all 2 of us were completely unplanned and the 3rd was a miracle baby they didn't think they would be able to have.

Appreciate this is an old thread. I am worried this may happen to me. But the clinic advised to take the MAP anyway, I took Ella One and if it has happened I would be okay but worried about the effects of this pill. Xx

@TN2025 It’s just full of hormones not likely to harm the baby

AHBM2022 · 16/05/2025 21:35

It took me years to learn how the morning pill actually works. It stops your ovulation, but if you are currently or very recently ovulated, you will still get pregnant. It’s crazy how it was never explained to me, I was always just given the pill 🤷🏻‍♀️

TN2025 · 16/05/2025 21:37

@emmatcc1 thank you xx

TN2025 · 16/05/2025 21:39

@AHBM2022i know, and now I am so unsure whether it will work xxx
