we're going to book a 4D scan - it will be after 24 weeks - when do people think the best time to have one is?

28-30 weeks. Earlier and you cant see characteristics as well and later their isnt enough room

we're having one done on sat and i'll be 30+4 which is a good time. As Becky77 said, you want to be later on, but with a little room for variation, in case baby is in bad position, and you have to go back again at a later date to get a good pic. You are after all paying quite a lot of money for the pics!
I had one done at 32 wks with ds1, amazing pics and dvd
Good luck with your scan!

I had one at 20w (pic is on my profile), again at 28w and then again at 32w. Id say that the 28w one was the best and most clearest.

Wait if you can. I had mine at 27 weeks but wished I had waited just another couple of weeks.

I would say 32 weeks is too late. We had a wellbeing scan done then and the sonographer switched it to 4D and he was really squashed! The sonographer said 28 weeks is best! GL!

I suppose everyone's different, my scan at 32 wks was just amazing, and the pics really clear (See profile).
I can't wait to have another one done for our new little one!

I'd have said 26-29 weeks. Later that that they can get quite squished up. I had one at 27 weeks with DS and wouldn't have wanted to leave it any later, but he was a huge baby. DD we did at 28 weeks and could have pushed it a bit further (she was smaller).
