I’m 10 weeks pregnant, and I can’t stop burping. It’s worse in the evenings and it’s really putting me off eating. I have no interest in cooking evening meals because of it. It’s putting me off my food and I’ve also been suffering from heartburn. Are these normal pregnancy symptoms, as they’re really getting me down?

Hi @Penahn95,

Sadly, yes, they are - the rising hormone levels can cause havoc for the digestive system.

When you say burping, are you bringing up gas, or are you bringing up stomach acid / food? I would speak to your GP if you are in discomfort - they can usually prescribe omeprazole to treat the reflux. It might take a couple of days to kick in, but it should help.

And don't forget, at 10 weeks, you are at the hormone peak - things should settle a little into the second trimester, though reflux does typically worsen as baby grows due to everything being pushed up and your stomach having less space.

Hang in there, but definitely speak to your GP - you don't have to suffer through it. X

@SomeOfMyChildrenAreFurry thank you for your comment. I’m bringing up gas when I burp, certain food repeats on me and I can taste it when I burp (sorry that’s gross). It’s getting me down a bit as it’s making me lose my appetite. I had a missed miscarriage in July this year, so this is my second pregnancy. I’ve been feeling quite anxious which probably isn’t helping. X
