Positive test, bleeding, still positive what’s going on

Tested positive 2 weeks ago with baby number 2 (test said 1-2 weeks). Had bleeding last week like a period assumed pregnancy didn’t work out. Called gp today and she said test again so we can ttc next month but it’s now showing positive and 2-3 weeks. Could this just be leftover hormones?

I’m also now freaking out that this might be ectopic as I’ve had twinges lower left abdomen on and off. They have improved side last week but still there.

Spoke to EPU midwife today and she was very unconcerned in general. Said too early to see on scan and go to A&E if I think it’s ectopic. They don’t have capacity for this type of thing. I don’t fancy sitting around in a&e for 10 hours for some twinges in my ovary area. I will obviously monitor.

Feeling quite lost and confused right now. I’m hoping tests are just showing leftover hormones rather than any lingering complications. Any experiences?

I have a 1 year old so juggling a lot!

It won't necessarily be a 10h wait in a and E. I went to a and E in August with heavy bleeding in pregnancy. When I arrived there was a 5h wait for triage but I was sent straight through to the nurses. They had a chat with me, drew some blood, checked I had a scan arranged with the epu, it had been planned for the day after before the bleeding went heavy. I was in and out in 40 minutes. We went at tea time and thought my partner would have to leave me there to take our daughter home for bed time but we were home well before we needed to be.
Unfortunately for me the heavy bleeding was a miscarriage but 2 in 3 pregnancies with bleeding go on to have successful pregnancies.
Have the epu arranged for you to have a scan? Have they told you what to look out for with potential for an ectopic? There are women that find themselves a month further along than they thought as they had bleeds around the time of their period and go on to have normal pregnancy. You would expect the hormones to be dropping if you lost the pregnancy it could be retained material but I'm not sure if the levels would be static in that situation or still rise.

Thanks 🙏 That’s good you had a quick visit. My husband had to go last year for a pretty bad facial injury and he was waiting 8 hours it was awful!

She said don’t test again and test in a few weeks if it’s still positive then get back in touch. She said if it’s ectopic pain would likely be getting worse not better. I guess it will be obvious if I need urgent medical attention.

She just kept saying too early to see or know. I’m thinking about booking a private scan in a few days just to see that hopefully that I don’t have any complications and can TTC again next month.

With the existing pregnancy, I just can’t believe that I had basically a normal period last week with cramps and normal blood and could go on to have healthy pregnancy as I never had that with my last one. Hate feeling in limbo just want to move on now!
