6 weeks 5 days scan

Went for a scan at 6 weeks 5 days due to a previous miscarriage
the midwife was happy with it but there was the smallest for which she thought was the start of the fetal pole - no heartbeat.

she suspects I’m earlier than we think because I only had one cycle between miscarriage

she wasn’t worried and kept telling me that saying to come back in 2 weeks by I’m so stressed
I don’t know whether to get a scan in between or panic or ahhh

any advice please

This is the trouble with early scans they often cause more anxiety and uncertainty. I was previously a sonographer and unless medically warrented would suggest waiting until 10/12 weeks for a scan.

It's quite common for dates to be different to LMP if you've ovulated earlier or later than average.

My first scan I should have been 8+2 from LMP but I only measured 6+1..... I'm now 21 weeks and official due date is 10 days behind what LMP would put me at.

All you can do is wait and see to be honest but try not to worry

I appreciate this is very difficult for you, but to look at it completely logically, what will panicking do? Absolutely nothing. You'll spend a few weeks feeling utterly rubbish with no influence on the outcome, so try not to do that.

Another early scan? That's more subjective, but I can't help feeling that if the results aren't conclusive (like today) then you've just opened yourself up to more of feeling worried and uncertain. So, imo, you should follow medical advice and just go back in two weeks.

Lots of pregnancy is about having to sit back and trust in your body/ things you can't control. Stress and anxiety can't help, so try to let go of that as much as possible (I knew easier said than done)

Really common post mc for dates to be off. Your cycle doesn't regulate for at least 3 months so you wouldn't know at what point you ovulated/how long your cycles going forward would be etc.

First trimester is riddled with worry but I personally think early scans cause extra and unnecessary worry. If you get an uncertain answer what can you actually do, you know? I had to have early scans because of a previous molar pregnancy but it caused me nothing but worry. Dates never matched up exactly. In future I will decline until closer to 10 weeks. For that reason, I don't recommend you getting a private scan any sooner. It will be a different machine/place/person and likely to give you a different measurement altogether as you're dealing with millimetres at this stage and its so subjective. Do some nice things for yourself in the next 2 weeks and look after your mental health as best you can. Best of luck OP! 1
