Spotting/bleeding 6 weeks 4 days

Hi, I’m 6 weeks 4 days pregnant. I had to use Letrozole to get pregnant and therefore had an early scan on Thursday (2 days ago). Baby had a heartbeat and was where it should be. Last night, around 36 hours after the trans vaginal ultrasound, I went to the toilet. I needed to do a number 2 and was straining a little bit and when I wiped, there was bright red blood. It was in the toilet bowl and took a few wipes to clear. I called 111 who asked for an out of hours GP to call me. By the time he did, the bleeding had stopped. There were no clots and it didn’t really go on the pad I had. He said to monitor.
This morning, I’ve managed to do a number 2 (no straining) and there was brown spotting, it is still there when I wipe.
I don’t feel it’s bad enough to go to A&E but the early pregnancy unit isn’t now open till Monday (today is Saturday).
Has this happened to anybody before? How did things turn out? I am so anxious and not sure how I’m meant to stop thinking about this.

I had a lot of brown spotting with my son, but also bright red fresh blood too. I think the bright red blood was at 6 weeks and 10 weeks. I don't think I ever had clots but it was a large amount. The second time was a large gush that happened at night (sorry if TMI but trying to relay how bad it really was!) So much that I fainted! and I felt sure we had lost him. He's now nearly 3 and still no idea why I bled. I had so many other mothers telling me they had similar experiences.

Thanks so much for your reply. I’m trying not to worry but it’s so hard. I never realised it was ok to have any bleeding in pregnancy!

Oh yes, I remember well. I was posting on here, googling non-stop, couldn't get my mind off it. From what you've said - not constant, no clots, bleeding after straining, and now old blood - this all doesn't sound alarming. Easier said than done not to worry though, I know!

I seem to recall being around 6/7 weeks with similar discharge and spotting. When I had the midwife appointment at 10 weeks, it had stopped but I still mentioned it. I remember her saying that around that time a lot of changes happen to the cervix which causes it. I'd def still get it looked at after the weekend, even if it has stopped. It's always better to put your mind at ease 🩷

I started to spot/bleed on Thursday when I was 7 weeks. I couldn't get a referral to EPU and was told to go to A&E which I didn't want to do as I wasn't bleeding that much and there was no pain meaning I wasn't going to be a priority. I ended up booking a private scan for Friday morning and baby was absolutely fine! I've got a small subchronic haematoma which is causing the bleed. They weren't too concerned saying that it is really small. I'm still bleeding now but no pain/clots etc.

I'm not going to lie, I'm back to worrying now but trying not to think about it. I've booked another scan for 3 weeks time to see what's happening

Hi, hope you don't mind joining in. I started bleeding on Friday at 6+1 and, whilst it was brown it was definitely more than spotting! The GP managed to get me a scan at the EPU on Tuesday and it's lightened up since then so I'm really hoping everything is ok. This is really tough isn't it! Hope everyone is OK ✨️

Thanks so much for responding. So sorry you’re having this to deal with too! Could they see baby over the tummy at the private scan? Mine was too small last Thursday and just wondering when it will be big enough. I’m fearful another transvaginal scan would just aggravate things more!

The waiting is unbearable! I can’t believe that it’s so hard to get help on the weekend too! Wishing you all the best.

Hiya, it's such a horrible wait! I agreed to a transvaginal scan (and it didn't seem to make things worse for me) and they could see baby. They did say they'd have struggled with an abdominal scan as baby is only 4mm at the moment. I did discuss the possibility of it aggravating things and they said it might do, but I didn't think I could cope with them not finding baby abdominally

@JWY91 hope you're getting on ok and everything has calmed down x

Thank you for checking in! It has actually, touching wood I’ve had no bleeding/spotting for the last two days. Got sent home from work yesterday morning because I was quite emotional but two days of no issues has been reassuring. I managed to get hold of the Early Pregnancy Unit too who gave me some piece of mind. Fingers crossed things will stay as they are.

All seems to have stopped! Probably about 4 days after it started. Symptoms have really ramped up since then - nausea is unreal, which I’m taking to be a positive. Had our first midwife appointment today so feeling reassured :)
