Hello! I had my 20 week scan a few weeks ago and they was unable to see what they needed so I went back 10 days later. They was still unable to fully see the heart. I did ask them at the time if that meant it was missing or should I be concerned and they said no it’s just his position. After lots of dr Google (worst thing I could have done) I’m now paranoid he’s in grave danger 🤦🏻‍♀️ I saw my midwife today and asked her and she tried to reassure me that if they was seriously concerned I would have been referred to fetal medicine (which I wasn’t) she also said they’d have checked the brain etc in detail as usually with a heart problem there would be a problem somewhere else too, they just said they won’t re scan me again now as they don't after a certain amount of weeks and that was it really and then discharged me. Has anyone else had anything like this and all been okay?

Just to add I’ve had 8 scans so far due to 4 losses and nothing has been picked up on any of them and I was discharged from my consultant at 18 weeks as they said he’s doing well! And also midwife listened to his heart and said there’s no abnormal things going on - I'm now 25 weeks so this was weeks ago but it's been on my mind x

I would go back and ask for a fetal echo OP - specialist scan of the heart.

Pregnancy is so hard to get through whilst staying sane...! I had very bad anxiety during my first pregnancy and every little thing that was "unusual" I would Google the absolute shit out of. It was completely exhausting. I think in the end (and then also during my second pregnancy) I had to trust that if the medical professionals were happy, then I had to be too. I know there are always scare stories in the media of times when they've got it wrong, but it's so so rare.
As your midwife said, if there were any concerns then you would have been referred.
You could request another more detailed scan, or get one privately, which would hopefully give you some peace of mind. But it's highly likely that everything is absolutely fine.
Please know that I'm not being dismissive, I've come out of the other side of an incredibly anxious pregnancy and looking back I was so unwell with it all. Google is not your friend 💐

The NHS screening standards only require a hospital offer two attempts to complete the anomaly scan and if not everything is seen the screening is classed as incomplete. It’s really difficult for a parent to hear that but that’s their guidance. It could be worth a private scan to try and put your mind at rest?

I've just realised that I've got a 4D scan which is costing me £110 but it's 4d & fetal well being booked for 3 weeks time which includes looking at the heart which I didn't realise when I booked it!

It does look like they have seen the 4ch view it’s the 3vv and 3vt they have not which they aren’t assessing at the private scan you have booked …. I think you need to ask them specifically if you are looking for complete views of heart.

Ah I didn't realise that. I have my gestational diabetes test in 9 days and will see the midwives then. So I'll bring this up again
