Hi guys. I’m currently 5 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I woke up this morning with very pale blood, it has now progressed to bright red and heavy within the space of 3 hours. Sorry the pics are gross but I’m really stressed. I’ve called the early pregnancy unit and I’m waiting on a call back. Has anyone else experienced this?

Blood that heavy and red is probably indicative of a miscarriage in most cases unfortunately, I am sorry. There may be some occasions where this isn't the case, but I'd have thought rare. Some bleeding is very common but this is usually brown/light. There isn't anything you can do really other than wait and see how things progress. Thinking of you, early pregnancy is so difficult and can be so cruel.

I had bleeding like this with big clots at 8 weeks with my 2nd baby (3rd pregnancy) and she is now nearly 2, had an agonising 4 day wait for a scan but all was fine and they couldn't see a cause for the bleeding. So it doesn't necessarily mean the worst although it can do. Really hope the outcome is good for you.
